    Hey there,

I'm totally new to the whole eGPU business and tried to build my own setup... which is not working stabil at the moment.
After a long and bumpy ride, I managed to install Windows 8.1 in EFI mode on a 2012 rMBP and I also managed to install the appropriate driver for the GPU.
The eGPU is now detected both in Windows 8.1 and (with some kext alterations) also in OSX.

But after some random time (something between 5min and 1h) the whole system shows very bad performance prior to a total freeze. This happens during normal surfing or in graphic intensive games in windows and also in OSX. I think I can rule out overheating.

I've connected the GPU via an PCIe riser to the 8x PCIe slot of the Sonnet Echo Express SEL and connected the auxiliary power of the card to and Corsair RM450.

Could it be that the 450Watt PSU is insufficient for the GPU? If not, what could cause such a random failure?

    Thanks in advance!
    Torsten
