PCIe Board: either PE4C V3.0 or EXP GDC Beast V8. You need to choose between mPCIe or Expresscard connection. You can buy the board in either format and it comes with the connector.
Graphics Card: I would stick with NVIDIA since the drivers seem most stable and offer compression. I game at 1440p with a GTX 1060 6GB but the 1070 is optimal for 1440p and 1080 for 4k.
PSU: probably need at least 400w to be safe. I bought CX430 from newegg for $15.

douric - thanks much for giving me list of items.
1 thing i would ask, do I need to get express card? you did say it comes with a connector, but not sure if i need express card beside that?

Hi. Not sure I understand the question. When you buy the PE4C or EXP GDC you can choose from which configuration you want. The most popular are mPCIe and Expresscard. When you make your selection it comes with the cable to connect via either mPCIe or Expresscard. You just need to pick which one you prefer.

The Dell laptop has expresscard, the Hp desnt.

It's easier to install an external GPU with the express card. (you don't have to open the laptop)

I prefer the ExpressCard. Makes life a lot easier.

What does device manager say? Do you see the video card listed? Any errors? You try turning off the laptop monitor using Windows display settings?

You may have to either disable or uninstall the internal display. Also, either remove or disable your internal GPU. My EGPU set up only worked with the internal GPU, and monitor disabled.
