It is the same. The technology is pretty new so there are two different terms "dual layer" and "double layer" both standing for the same thing. I've just presented a couple of links to prove that there are such dvd burners on the market.
The real question is, has anyone tested such a burner like that? Speed 2.4 does not impress though. -

What about M6809 and other flavors? Do you mean all of them have just USB 1.1 instead of 2.0? [B)]

Thanks for your reply. I have tested my 128MB USB flash drive with both my workstation and laptop. The workstation fills it for 25 seconds whereas my laptop takes 30 seconds to copy the same data, but I attribute this difference to hard drive speeds - 7200rpm for my workstation versus 4200rpm for my laptop. That is why I was amazed to see there is something wrong this USBs. At the same time I have a wireless optical mouse that has a USB receiver and I do not have to do anything with it like plugging/unplugging to make it work. It works smooth and I never had any problems with it. So, the bottom line, it seems eMach were changing something in the casing for M681X laptops and it went the wrong way.

There were a bunch of issues with the M6811. I don't know how they could have occurred, as the system is essentially the same machine with a faster CPU. But they did, and that is why the machine came out only briefly two months ago, and then disappeared for a while. It has now recently come back. Hopefully, they will fix the reoccuring problems.

For those who may be interested in the high-end technology - 27GB(R), 23GB(RW) single-layer blue-ray burner that uses blue semiconductor laser. Warning! Do not be scared with its price, it is a very high end thingie [

I just bought one of these M6811, runs great and I couldnt be any more happy about it. Installed Star Wars Galaxies last night and it ran it better than most desktops I've seen run the game. By the way I got mine at Best Buy which makes sense since I work there.

Make sure if you are getting a different laptop the processor is mobile.

The USB on the M6811 is USB 2.0 (High Speed, 480). I had a machine with a grounding fault that caused my USB problems. It was replaced with another m6811 and all the problems went away. I have tested and benchmarked all 4 USB Ports using an external 7200 RPM USB 2.0 / Firewire Hard Disk. They are definately USB 2.0. Interestingly, the firewire connection was three times as fast as the USB 2.0 connection.

That's some great news. Anyway, I will still give eMachines some more time to get things corrected. For now I have got myself an Asus M6 and the time for AMD 64 comes eMachines will top my list followed by Sager.
