Hello, I was at BestBuy yesterday returning the fourth eMachines m6811 for cracked hinges, and probably because the same guy changed 3 of them for me in the last 40 days, he advice me to get something better and show me the Hp zv5340 model that pretty much has the same as the m6811 except for the video card and the multiformat dvd burner. but the plus was the 100GB on the hp against the 80GB on the m6811. Along other specs that they differ. Basically I would like to get advise on laptops here, I paid around $2100 for the m6811 with a 3year plan from Bestbuy plus taxes. but if I decide to get another model, I can changed it for a $1700 price range. Please let me know what you guys think, they also have some toshibas, and Compac Presario models.
Here are some specs of the Hp zv5340us
Amd Athlon 64 3400+
Processor speed 2.2GHz
15.4" Brightviw WXGA Display (looks amazing)
512MB DDR Memory
100GB Hard drive (4200rpm and 20GB more than eMa m6811)
DVD+R burner (not multiformat as on m6811)
64MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 4 440 Go +1394 & 5-in-1
The video card is holding me back, the eMachines m6811 comes with a 64MB Ati Radeon 9600 which runs games nice, I only use it for a Soccer game called Winning Eleven 7 International, but being the fact that the same series is coming to the xbox, then for gaming is not a big issue anymore, so considering this, what would you guys recommend, should I go with this or wait until Hp sells the amd athlon 64 3700+ on retail stores. or perhaps emachines upgrade the models too! any advice is wellcome and appreciated.
Thanks.

I am on my 4th M68xx due to various defects on my previous units. Like you, I got my original M6805 from Best Buy with 3yrs extended warranty. After 3rd time returning, I was trying to get another brand as a replacement, but I was told by the BB manager that the extended warranty will void if I do that. So I opt for another M6811.
I was looking at Compaq R3000T which can be customized at Best Buy. It can be configured with 128MB ATI 9600. Granted it's not a AMD64 system, but everything else is comparable for comparable price.
I suggest you do not settle for Nvidia Gforce 440. It's slow compared to the ATI 9600

I suggest you get the new hinges on the m6811 and call it a day. Why keep returning the laptop for another one from the same production run that will have the same flaw. Other than the hinge problem, there have been very (very) few other problems with the emachines m68xx line. Have you read the other threads and understand the nature of the hinge crack? Basically the cracks are cosmetic flaws only and have a simple fix that requires you to either send your laptop into e-machines or check the serial numbers of the laptop you get to replace yours to avoid getting one from the same production run? Do you have any other complaints with the laptop? If not, i would suggest just sending it in to e-machines and keeping it.

I read once about the models that were defective, however I forgot what numbers they were, and the post name, also try searching and looking for it, but didnt find anything. I try these: n3045, n3046, n3047, n3048, n3048 (currently using it). All of them develop the crack, but the last one took about 7days and both hinges crack badly. I dont mind changing, that's why I ended up paying $2,100 for it. Any other brand model you guys might consider better than the emachines m6811?
Thanks for the replies!

Hmm I'm using a N3047 serial number....[:0]
No sign of any problems so far - well as far as cracks are concerned - imminent HD failure is on the cards but certainly not cracks [}]
