I called my local retailer about the various 3510 models. I wanted to have 5400 rpm HD but was told that this was only possible in the A (the lowest priced) model that doesn't have a DVD-burner. It seemed odd that a better (speed wise) HD would be in the lowest model. Was I told the truth?

What are the other differences between the A, B and C models other than the HD and the presence of a DVD writer?

Did you check their Canadian site for specs? That does sound weird to me as well.

Looks like my local sales rep was misinforming me. Fujitsu canada says that all models come with a 4200 rpm HD only, but if a new HD was to be installed it shouldn't matter which model you have.

On that note, coming from someone with no hardware experience, is it straightforward to install a HD (or have someone do it)? the sales rep I spoke to said that the problem would be reinstalling the system because Fujitsu will only send a Windows XP recovery disk, and not the actual WinXP CD's.

In Canada, we cannot order customized models nor can Canadian retailers.

Canadian retailers are only offered pre-assembled stock.

If you want it customised off the line, you have to order from the US.
