I'm planning on getting a Fujitsu notebook shortly and have an offbeat request for any laptop owner whose machine utilizes the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 graphics.
There is a neat free program offered by google called google earth (free) which allows one to fly over the world and and view streaming data obtained from collected satellite images (non-real time).
I would like to know if the Intel integrated graphics can handle this. One way to access the software is via:
www.picasa.com (a neat picture cataloging software). This site has a link to the google site which has some free software.
or

Thanks,
Harvey

http://earth.google.com gets you there faster.
I just love this software. But I never figured what's so 3D intensive about it. It seems to me everything is 2D.
I believe the GMA 900 can handle it, since they only require 3D capability and 32MB VRAM.
But that thing just eats up my connection! -
Some of the major U.S. cities (i.e., New York) are in 3D
-
I really cannot see it. I am right now looking at NYC and DC, and if I tilt it is just flat!
But it sure does use 3D capabilities, because you have the option to run in DirectX or openGL.
It could be just me
-
yeah i can run DirectX or OpenGL too, i guess when you think about it it is just such a big ass sphere covered in multiple layers of textures or something so that is about the extent of it's 3dness,
but **** i love that software, my friend in thailand just gave me the coordinates to show me his house and i could show him my college on the other side of the world, it is great. -
My desktop shows the 3D. I know there were some graphic cards that were not supported - listed at the site.

Look for Grand Cayon, that one has nice 3D view. Also Boston, MA that also nice 3d View
love the part u can put placemark and gmail it to anyone
AWEOMSE,
Google says, all your internet belong to us..
REP!!! -
Wow
the canyons look cool. But cannot seem to see anything 3D in boston.
You deserve the REP
So not to take over this thread which was initially posted to check if anyone with intel integrated graphics (GMA 900) has used google earth, and to verify that it works fine, I have started a thread in the off topic to continue this
-
qwester, give me ur email, i'll send u placemarks, i got tonnes
weird ones as well
-
O.K, I just loaded it onto an IBM R40 Thinkpad with an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. It DOES NOT display 3D as does my desktop which has a high end video card. So it is choosy about what cards can give a 3D perspective view.
I would still like some input from any users of the Intel 900 integrated graphics as to whether the program works with that graphics setup - especially the 3D mode (ie., view New York).
Thanks,
Harvey -
Cockpit error. My R40 does show the U.S cities in 3D. You have to check the box for "3D buildings" in the layers frame on the left side of the screen. Then it shows a 3D effect for buildings.
