Ive also been looking at this laptop, along with ACER, Sony, and small laptops like Tosh A10. I thought the spec of this laptop was really good, and the 128MB graphics card is a big bonus at the price. But the only review I found was a guy who said he regretted buying it. Apparently battery life was rubbish and it ran extremely hot. Ive not found any other reviews yet but thats the only thing thats put me off.

As you know it has 3.2 ghz p4,so for my opinion we do not need talk much about its battery life,it can be ridiculuos,if we talk battery, you must look M processors...And of course if you take Amilo d notebook, you should take a laptop cooler...because this system heat up quickly, and its gpu power is excellent...min.9500 point in 3d mark2001. but you must consider it has 9600 pro and if you take its settings to performance you can easily find yourself like mobility 9700...

Ok first things first i have had an Amilo D1840 For 5 days and it is NOT good news!

    Advantages:
    It is a stunning machine
The widescreen is very crisp and clear
It feels like a very expensive and well built quality laptop
    Very Good graphics chip
    Excellent Keyboard
Comes with a reasonable Software package....Microsoft Worksuite 6.0, Nero cd software, Etc
    It Supports 5.1 Surround Sound [ :D][ :D]

    Disadvantages:
It may not charge the battery And will only run on Ac Power
This will be solved with a Bios Flash but dont do it before u fone the Helpdesk Otherwise if it goes wrong they will Not repair it under warranty and it will cost you £500 For a new motherboard!
Dvd+rw doesnt support all types of dvd discs Only DVD+R/RW not DVD-Ram, DVD-R/RW etc.
It DOES get hot at the bottom left hand side!

A little on Fujitsu-Siemens Support: They are quite good however, If u do something without consulting them they may charge you alot and i mean alot to repair it on an "Out of Warranty" Basis!....

I Got one of the d1840's that needed a bios update and i did it however something went wrong and because i didnt consult them they wanted me to pay £500 For a new motherboard....I even tried another laptop repairs specialist and they Were wanting £425 + VAT!!!!! The motherboards dont come cheap!!

My verdict is the Amilo D1840 is about 6 months old and there are alot of problems with them!!

However i would go for the superceeded Version of The Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo D1840 which is the Amilo D1845 which has just come out (Aughust) and it is the same shell with the same EXCELLENT screen and keyboard but just an updated version Maybe with less faults.... I am getting My Amilo D1845 Tomorro And sending the Amilo D1840 back!! When i get it i will Put a review of it up but i hope i dont have as many problems as i did with the Amilo D1840![ :p]

Im going to (probably) buy this notebook this week, i think it offers good specs at a fairly price, but i have some doubts about the screen. I know its WXGA, with a max resolution of 1280x800, and everybody says its a good screen.

The question is, i think its a good resolution to see DVD movies, but im not sure if it is fine to play games (or use anything in fullscreen) at a 1024x768 or 800x600. I have done some quick try, changing the resolution in the store, and it appears to disturb the image, making it wider... im wondering if the notebook can show the image in a 1:1 ratio (1 pixel of res, 1 pixel of screen), instead of "simulate" 1024x768 in a 1280x800. I know that, in orther to make that posible, there must be two black bands without pixels at each side of the screen (just the inverse you got when seeing a DVD in 1024), but that its acceptable to me.

Thanks in advance, and excuse my english
