Hello all, I'm happy to have stumbled over this place and hope someone can help me with a problem I just can't seem get around.

A few days ago I bought the Amilo M1437G notebook, and bought a faster replacement disk as I work with audio and require quick disk access. I got myself a Seagate Momentus 7200 rpm 80 GB, SATA.

Installed the disk in the notebook, but the bios doesn't detect the drive. Infact, it doesn't detect the original either, but Windows is preinstalled and boots without problems. When I try installing Windows XP Pro on the new disk, the setup program tells me there are no harddrives present in my machine.

I've verified that the disk is not defect by installing it on another (desktop) system, and it works like a charm.

I've called the Fujitsu-Siemens support here in Sweden but they have no idea why its not working.

Have I missed something obvious here? I've gone thru the bios properly but I can't find an autodetection option anywhere.

I would be grateful for any advice, as I'm dying to get my computer up and running.

    Thank you.

    /Ozric

edit: I use the newest BIOS version: 1.10C

No need to reply, it was obviously the SATA drivers that was missing.

argh ok, didnt read the thread properly. My problem is that i want to reinstall xp and have lost my recovery cd. The result is that i cannot install xp pro ´cause it needs those stupid sata drivers and i havent had any luck in adding those drivers with Nlite or any of the other slipstreaming tools outthere - so im basically lost as i cannot load the drivers via usb!

I have a similar problem, my WinXP crashed and I'm trying the recovery CD.

The installation just stops when it is inpecting the hardware or something.

I have extracted the INTEL SATA driver from intel_sata_v4_7_0_6815_w2k_wxp.exe from my driver CD.

I put this on a USB floppy and at installation I press F6 to add the driver. I add the driver and continue.

But, it doesn't help, it still can't find the HDD.

You have to mount that VIA RAID driver on your CD. You can use nLite for that.

    Good luck.

As Notebook Solutions said, the drivers for the hard disk have to be mounted onto the Windows CD. Have alook at the sticky on the "Fujitsu" forum for more information, created by sunjhoon.

I actually have a USB-FDD, so I shouldn't have to create a CD. I have extracted the Intel(R) 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller driver to floppy and I add it with F6 during the installation. But, the installation hangs when inspecting the system or something...
