    Hello

my mother has recently bought the AMILO Si 2636. The first thing I wanted to do was to burn the (3) recovery discs. I did everything as suggested in the manual but everytime it failed.
I've already contacted Fujitsu-Siemns several times but never got an answer.

Is there any other way to create recovery discs?
I've read on their site that you can buy the discs for 30€, but I refuse to do that.

What media are you using? Did you try more than one brand? Does the manual specify the type of media? (I expect that you need to use DVD+R or DVD-R unless it explictly states CD-R).

Also, is your problem that the recovery image program refuses to start burning the disks or do the disks burn but are unreadable?

Nope, it starts burning but then stops at a certain % with an error. I don't know what the error message was though.

Is it possible to make a recovery cd using software like acronis?

We need to sort out whether the problem lies with the optical drive, the discs, the software for burning the recovery discs, or the files for the recovery discs.

    1. Did you try more than one make of discs?

    2. Did you try burning a data disc (of anything, such as what is on the HDD) using a burning software such as Nero?

I've tried several discs of the same brand, I will try another brand. I haven't used Nero either, it's a certain procedure that I have to follow (mentioned in manual).

How do you use Nero to burn the recovery discs?

You would need to be able to find the files for those discs. They might be in the recovery partition. Try searching for files bigger than 1GB.

However, the reason I suggested Nero (or other burning application) is that you can try to burn a disc with anything, just to see if the optical drive itself is OK (Nero has a Verify feature that I always use).

If you can successful burn a disc with another application then the problem must be with either the recovery files or the program for burning them.

Hmm, now that you mentioned it. I've tried burning Memtest on a disc several times with that laptop and everytime I couldn't boot from the disc, even if I burned it correctly. Then I burned memtest with my own laptop and everything worked ok.

Nero didn't mention anything though ...

Could you post a screenshot with the error? It would help us identify the problem. Also HijackThis log would offer us insight on what is running when the error happens.
