Im about to place an order with portable one for my S6240.

How do I ask them to check for dead pixels? Should I just call them?

Also, any last minute advice would be nice. All this talk about the S7000s having problems with their screens is making me nervous.

Well I can't speak for the s6240 exactly, but my s2110 has a great screen withvery little light leakage, and I believe the 6240 uses the same screen. I wouldn't worry about it. As for dead pixel checking - just email Ivan (general P1 email address) and ask him to check it for dead pixels before shipping it to you. It adds a day or two to shipping time, but I think the service is definitely worth it.

If you're willing to go with stock models and take a chance on dead pixels, newegg has them for $200 off list plus $100 mail-in rebate.

No complaints! Been a great rig, and I know I can count on Newegg's Service department when needed.

I did upgrade my ram as well as the hard drive.

I have a couple questions about the newegg S6240:

    1) It says 512MB of RAM, is that 1 512 DIMM or 2x256

    2) What RPM speed is the hard drive?

    My S6231 came with 512 mb ram- 2 X 256mb pc2700 modules.

    I swapped them out with 2 A-Data 512mb modules.

My hard drive was a 4200 rpm model. I replaced it with a Hitachi 7K60 60gb, 7200 rpm drive. Big improvement in boot and application load times.

I installed the 4200 hard drive in a Vantec External enclosure, now using that as a master backup device.

I bought the drive and memory at Newegg, though there are others that sell these items- ZipZoomFly comes to mind as one.

It is 2 DIMMs but it does not say what that HD speed is. I expect that it is 4200rpm.
