[:0]Somebody hold my hand here! [:0]I bit the bullet and ordered a 204 from Global Computers (Laptopsinc.com)!

Found cheaper deals with out-of-state vendors, but for the 204 stock with 256MB RAM. [ ;)]

Laptops.inc has it with a free upgrade to 512MB. Best price I could find was for around $100.

With free two-day shipping, the upgraded RAM, but sales tax, buying from Laptopsinc.com was only about $120-something more than through Euclid or Amazon/J&R. I figured a $20 premium to avoid the hassle of buying and installing a RAM chip was worth it. Plus, I don't have to worry about storing or eBaying yet another computer component. (Believe me, I've stuff earmarked for eBay piled up in my office! My wife calls me the Electronic Sanford.)

Anyway, somebody tell me I did the right thing. Here are the deal-sealers for me:

    1) Portability. If there's anything I've learned from my multiple digital camera/camcorder purchases, size is everything. I can't tell you how many photo-ops I have missed because I was unwilling to lug that Nikon Coolpix 800 around. Hell, the Coolpix 2500 got too unweildy! Now, I've got a Minolta Dimage XT and that's beginning to look a little big![:0]

    2) DVD ROM. Yeah, I know it's for computing, but sometimes you want to just watch a DVD. I still have that Pioneer 7" DVD player collecting dust in the corner. [)]Why did I buy that? Oh yeah, because it was cool. But all it can do is play DVDs. (eBay fodder.)

    3) SD/CF readers. This is big. As I mentioned before, I have multiple digital cameras. Some using Compact Flash cards, some Secure Digital. How I wished I had something to empty my cards onto when we went to Europe three years ago! (Digital wallets weren't available then, and a 128MB CF card set me back almost $300! [xx(])

    4) Keyboard is fine. After trying it out at Fry's, I got used to it after typing just a couple of paragraphs. Even found the comma and period keys with relative ease. So, not a biggie. I think typing on my Treo 300 helped there.[ :p]

    5) 802.11g. Though I don't have it set up yet, I really like the idea of wireless networking. Plus, I think I'll have more reasons to hang out at Starbucks now![^]

That's all I can think of for now. Does Laptopsinc throw in any swag? A hat or t-shirt would be cool. I did not order the extended warranty. (AMEX will add a year. So two should be fine. I'll most likely upgrade by then. But, then, I still have my five-year-old Powermac G3/300 limping along![B)])Should I get it pretty quickly?

Okay, that's enough. Gotta get back to work to pay for this! Oy![ :D]

Welcome to my world! You touched on one point that was huge for me too, the integrated card slots. When at tech shows, it's great to slide in my CF card and work with images for articles, without having to bring extra cables. I can also take Andrew's Mem Stick and do the same. Anyway, let us know when it arrives!

Eh, I couldn't sleep last night for fear of spending more that I wanted to![B)]But the SWMBO just high-fived me and said congrats this morning. So, all is well, I guess! Eek![8)]

You've waffled a bit since this post, is your order still pending or did you cancel it?

Still pending. Yeah, I've been fickle. I'm still leaning towards the Fujitsu. It's just I keep coming across such tempting alternatives! Like the X40, which I am ruling out for lack of the extra spindle. The Panasonic Toughbook W2, which is losing out mainly because of the higher price. Sony's are out of the question. The AOpen 1557G looks nice and awesome for gaming, but at six pounds just weighs too much.

I'm still in for the P5020D. Laptopsinc has updated my order status to indicate that my unit will be shipping on Feb. 11. Which is a Wednesday. With free two day shipping and me being in CA, I should definitely get it before the weekend, no?!

I'll have 30 days to try it out. So, the worst thing that could happen is I'll be out shipping costs for returning it, right?

    Oy! So, anxious![:0]

They said the 3 year warranty ones are shipping out thursday and since I live in California I am shipping it to my relatives in IL who are gonna fedex it back to me, so I am going to have to wait a few days longer but i save $160 in sales tax [ :D]

    I ordered:

    P5020D
    60GB 7200 HD
512 MB ram (im gonna sell that and buy 1GB)
    3 year warranty
I also ordered a small case for carrying it around and a messenger style backpack for carrying it around with other things. I also got one of those new nice with the retractable cords that close inside the mouse's body. I still need to buy a mini USB bluetooth doggle for all my bluetooth needs and I should be all set!

I'm very excited to get it, I should have it by next week sometime. I will let you know!
