HI i bought myself a x1554 amilo notebook and i must say i am happy with it.
The only problem i have with it is the graphical card.
I tested my new laptop with the game san andreas. Everything worked well for like 2 minutes. And then crash i got some realy weird glitches like those when you overclock your card. It looked like a computer virus in the movies lol.
I said to myself don't worry mayby a driver / san andreas / vista problem.
So i removed vista and created a raid 0 array. Then i installed xp.
And found out how to force drivers so i use 7.2 catalyst now.
Again i test my game ... same problem.
I tried ut2004 same problem. HAlf life 2 : same problem.
The first thing i noticed is that the cpu and gpu get to hot.
The cpu temp is 60 ° on average use and while gaming it gets higher then 70 °.
I can't control the system fans or change the cpu temp in the bios.
The bios anyway is like the whorst bios ever seen. It has like 5 features.
I can understand a oem strips down some parts but this is realy to much a bit more options is not asked to much.
Anyway i found a "solution" that works. When i underclock the gpu 50 mghz (350 mghz) it works like a dream. I played half life 2 maxed out for more then 6 hours. Still i don't think this is a good solution.
Please help thanks

The temperature for the processor are fine, as most people with this notebook have such temperatures. Don't worry about it, its quite normal. Check that when you play the games, the fan spins faster. You should certainly be able to hear it, as it gets fairly loud when spinning as fast at it can.
It sounds like an overheating problem, due to the fact when the core speed is lowered, the notebooks seems okay. If you are still under warranty, then you may want to send it in. -
wel i installed xp can that be a problem to bring it back
-
The OS should make no difference to the temperature of the components. If the notebook did the same thing of Vista and on XP, its not connected to the OS.
The cooling system in the notebook should be enough to handle the heat produced by the processor and graphics card, so it could be a fan problem. Have you check the fan? -
wel how do i check the fan ? lol sry if that sounds dumm. It is spinning if that is what you mean
-
i can't check the rpm beacusse my fan is not detected by software, speedfan ,nhc
-
Its not dumb, don't worry. Load up a game, and within a minute or two, the fan should become quite loud, because of the graphics load. Alternatively, open up a processor intensive task, and see if fan gets loud. If it does, it means the fan is adjusting to load on either the processor or graphics card. Also, doing this will tell us if the processor is causing the trouble or the graphics card.
-
no not so impressive the difrence in speed. in noise when gaming or not. I wasen't able to find a cpu intensive task so i just gamed. Anyway it is not like my desktop where the fan makes like no noise in normal use but when gaming like 3 times as much noise. It is more like a stable speed
-
If there is no change in noise, then it would suggest that there is a problem with the fan or the fan's thermistor. Both are things that are difficult to fix, and if your under warranty, then it will probably be the best way to go about things. One thing you could try is to clean the vents of the notebook. On your notebook, there is one on rear.
-
wel cleaning is a nice sugestion but as it ocured 20 minutes after first time use i don't think dust is a problem. Anyway i bought it at a supermarket and the support is realy bad. Explaining the problem wil not be that easy. THe laptop is brand new 1 week old. So warenty wil not be a problem. The only problem i see is that i removed vista , you think that will afect the warenty ?
-
No, I don't think that the removal of the OS is a big issue. If it is, then you can always reload the previous OS anyway. If you don't want to deal with the shop, then you can contact Fujitsu Siemens. I also bought my notebook through a reseller, and when I needed to send it in for a repair, I dealed through Fujitsu Siemens directly. The problem can be fixed quicker that way.
-
Wel the weird thing is when i underclock it 50 mghz it works like a dream i men the gpu. The x1900 doesen't has a temp sensor so i can't say it makes a lower temperature. The most logical explaination for me is a bad fan.
I wil take a picture off the graphical corruption mayby a 3D guru can see the cause. -
Wel i am gooing to contact fujitsu siemens i did some research (google). And the artifacts i see are caused by overheat or hardware damage. In this case it's overheat beacussse underclocking makes the artifacs go away if the cause was hardware damage it would occur at any clock speed. I think my fan doesen't work like it should still i would like to get manual control over the fan but speedfan and nhc doesen't detect my fan or don't support it.
-
This is really one downside of this notebook. The Xi 1554, Xi 1546 and Xi 1526, are pretty much all the same notebooks, using the same cooling system and chassis, and in neither is there any sort of manual fan control. Most of the time, the system works flawlessly, but some people, like yourself, do have problems. It would be nice if manual fan control could be built into future models.

@ didijeeeke
I have a similar problem which I took up in the xi 1546 thread. It's sadly ironic that you have to underclock the x1800 even more considering that FS have already undercklocked that GPU compared to the desktop version.
edit: Sorry, saw that you have a x1900 not a x1800. But even so I would like to see a screenshot of that graphical corruption you're talking about, maybe it's similar too what I'm getting. -
Wel sry i am not able to give you a screenshot i got realy pissed and returned the laptop to the shop. First they complained about the xp part beacusse it came with vista but i must have made a pissed impression beaccusse it did not take long to get my money back

it looked like this but like 100 time more whore the screen was completly covered with crazzy lines like on the screenshot.
Anyway i loved the xi 1554 but after this problem i decided to upgrade my desktop pc. And buy a cheaper laptop instead any suggestions ? -
I think you should upgrade your desktop instead and get cheap laptop. My personal experiences tell me that gaming laptops are unreliable. I actually bought my notebook as a desktop replacement which I kind of regret now with all the problems I've been having. I've never had any problems with my dirt-cheap HP lappy though -
Gaming notebooks are always a bit risky, because of the fact they normally have the latest graphics cards and latest processors, both of which are packed into a very thin chassis. Its not suprising then that sometimes you get problems. I've been very lucky with my notebook. I have been using it for gaming, but recently have backed off a bit, and in the year that I've owned it, it only went wrong once, about 2 weeks after I bought it. Since then, its performed solidly and been fine.
Its unfortunate that you've had to refund your, didijeeeke. But, its certainly the safer thing to do. Desktops are much more reliable and buying a smaller notebook which doesn't have the highest heat outputs is a good idea. -
Wel i still need a laptop but i will choose for a much slower graphical card. For those who are intressted i am upgrading my desktop with a geforce 8800 gts 640 mb Asus and a nice 24 inch screen Gaming wil be awsome lol.
-
-
That 8800gts will crush any GPU in a notebook today. Just make sure you get a a good PSU as well or you might get some serious stability issues with such a power-hungry card.
-
wel i did some research and i have decided to get dual 8800 gts in sli. I still have some space in my buget. For power supply i am still not shure. I want my system to kick ass lol
-
For the PSU, you need one that can handle the current values the two graphics cards need. The OCZ Power Powerstream PSU seems to be a good one, and it has the necessary amperages to power two graphics cards.
