Hello. I am currently thinking of getting the fujitsu s2110 but I've recently seen it in person and I think the screen size is a tad small. I am considering the 14" s7020 but not only will I pay $200 more for it at portable one, I am also getting into some trouble territory here. From past posts, I've read about backlight problems, left palm rest heat, constant fan noise, and other things. Are any of these concerns still justifiable with the current s7020? I will also be losing 64bit processing as well as a better integrated video card (if that makes a difference, which doesn't really). Is it worth switching over for a 1" size difference?

I really don't think you'll see that much difference in the screen size. For portability the smaller display is preferable. If you buy from P1 they have a nice return policy if you decide you hate it.

hmm are you in real urgent need of a notebook? If you could wait, some of the new Napa models look pretty nice!

I guess I am not too urgent about it right now. I am wanting to hook up my ps2 and play games with a pvr box and view it on the laptop screen. However, I don't want to be stuck with something that's too small. I also like the s7020 appearance-wise. Dual core and Napa are interesting but I have yet to see any reviews of them yet and school is about to start.

^what happened to your Z70va? And are you only interested in standard ratio?

I sold my z70va because I didn't like it. Yes I am only interested in standard ratio. I like them alot better. I was rushed into the hype of widescreen with my two previous laptops but now I've realized how much I don't like them at all.

try the older model S7010D. I've had it for a year so far (I usually change laptops once every 2 months!). Problem free notebook! u can get a pretty good deal from fujitsu's ebay store. I would actually like to sell mine to upgrade to a widescreen but I am still waiting for Fujitsu to release some 12/13/14" widescreens. I am now a brand loyalist!!!

hmm i can't think of too many other glossy screen standard ratio laptops out there other than the Fujitsu S and E series. IBM thinkpads are nice, matte screen is average, but the new T60 promises to have a nice gpu (x1600). There's also the Quanta MW1, also matte with sxga screen and Nvidia 6600.

If I could find a s7010 even though its discontinued, should I go for it over the other offerings? I've heard its realy quiet and cool.

Some questions I need a concret answer about. Does the s7010 have a user accessible hard drive? Does it take DDR333 or DDR400? Not DDR2 right?

I've read about it before. Its not much different than my z70va and the reasons why I sold it are still there, that being the heat, noise, unappealing appearance, and bulkiness. It has an x700 which contributes to a lot of the problems and I don't think graphic cards and notebooks mix well.

lol, I learned it the expensive way :D But I must admit, so far only the IBM T42 with it's 9600 (which was a pretty nice mid range card for it's time).. was pretty cool to the touch even when under good load! I don't want to go back to IBM, but it's build and quality keep making me look at their direction :( stupid IBM.

It does have a user replaceable hard drive. I've replaced it myself! :)

    Hei everybody!

Please DON'T BUY the S7020! It has major overheating problems. I've got mine for two months and I'm really disapponted. And my problem is quite typical. There are several threads about it on the Fujitsu-Siemens forum. The S7020 suffers of major design mistakes, believe me!!!

    Cheers
