My N5010 arrived from laptopsinc last thursday[]. Not much to add to posts of other users. Some have reported lots of clicking from the 7200RPM HDD, but I haven't really noticed any. I think I heard some once, but it was really quiet, nothing like the 7200RPM Seagate in my desktop. The fan does come on and off frequently, but it doesn't bother me. No rattling, just the sound of blowing air. It's quieter than the AMD machine in the next cubicle over. That machine is driving me nuts[}
]! Left palm rest does get warm (hotter than body temp, 10 min after power on), as does keyboard (after an hour or two). It's actually a feature for me, since my hands always get cold at the keyboard [
]. Speakers are OK, if you turn up the bass, but then my expectations probably aren't too high in that department. Looking into some freeware to remap the keyboard, since you have to use Fn key to access Home and End keys, which I use frequently. I have also noticed that if you are a sloppy typer, like me, then you will often drag you thumb across the touch pad and suddenly end up typing in a new place! There is a box you can check in the touch pad program that turns the touchpad off while typing. I plan to just us better form and stop dragging my thumb. I can't think of anything else that's been discussed in relation to this machine. Happy to answer questions related to N5010.

Noah, glad to hear you're liking the new notebook! Thanks for the offer to help field questions, I'm sure they'll come up.

noahsark glad that you jumped onboard with us
THat "some" (who i think is "me" lol) was wrong and there is no clicking...I don't know where that sound came from...it completely disappeared. The notebook is definitely warm....it's slightly annoying but nothing unbearable...I still would get this notebook even if i knew beforehand that it was this warm.

I was going to get the N5010 or the HP 17" widescreen with bright view and 128MB gpu. The prices came out to about the same. In the end, I felt like fujitsu was a higher quality vendor. I hope I didn't make an expensive mistake! Well, even if fujitsu isn't, I do think the folks at laptopsinc will take care of me, provided they don't go under. Never can tell with internet companies.

Oh god not the HP....sorry this may offend hp users but that machine just isn't up to the quality of a fujitsu...
You can tell by the flimsy construction and the crappy screen (I think it's the worst screen quality of all notebooks out there). After seeing the non brightview screen from the HP 17" model I was convinced that there was no way the screen could be better than the Fujitsu. Take my advice and go to bestbuy and circuitcity and check the HP out. After using the Fujitsu for a while, you'll puke when you take a look at the HP screen..... -
Right, the non-bright view screen was nothing to write home about, but aren't the brightview screens pretty good? I found a post someplace (wish I could recall where) that was saying all the nice screens (sony, fujitsu crystalview, hp brightview) were the same technology (called MVA) coming from the same screen vendor. I don't have any big electronic stores to go to[V], so I had to buy sight unseen in either case. All I had to go on were photos and posts from users that I could find on the web. I really wasn't very keen on having my keyboard so far off-set and I have already had crummy hp customer support with other products. So, it wasn't too hard to go for fujitsu. I was also intrigued that the fujitsu had a metal case, but now that I have it, I can't tell what part if any is metal. How about you Jesoonster?

"sony, fujitsu crystalview, hp brightviewwere the same technology
You're probably right. they are the same technology...but just b/c they are the same technology does not mean that they are just as one another (small differences in specs including quality of the screen itself). Sony and Fujitsu screens are on par with each other. Although I have not seen the brightviews, I'm guessing the basic screen quality (not talking about brightness, contrast and such. I'm talking about quality of construction) was the worst of all the 17" models that I compared to. I compared it side by side with the 17" toshiba models and they were SO much worse....both quality wise, resolution wise (although resolution SHOULD have been the same as the toshiba since both were XGA), and brightness wise.....
So looking at that there was no way in hell I would buy a 17" model regardless of what they offered.
Oh ...let me tell you this. When I was really interested in the HP brightviews (few weeks after it came out) I did some research on their site and could not find any info (specs). I called tech support and guess what...they were looking at the manual and could not find the specs for the screen.....
That says a LOT about HP there already...
Now back to your question...the only parts that I think are metal are the speakers lol. Everything looks plastic to me ^^;
Another happy n5010 owner
