    I have decided to get this laptop but have the dilemma of whether I should get the XGA w/ CV (1024x768) or the SXGA w/o CV (1400x1050).

    I know it is a personal perference but I have never seen a 7010 w/ SXGA. My main concern is readability of the text with such a high resolution. So does anyone have the SXGA or have seen one, can you give some comment please??

    One more thing, if I'm going for the SXGA, can I switch it back to 1024x768 if I want to?? Would I lose some clarity on the screen??

    Thanks in advance![ :)]

    Running in anything other than native resolution will result is come loss of quality. It's worse on some machines than others, but you will notice.

    I think the CV is worth giving up the extra resolution, I'd go that way.

    Brian: I'm leaning towards the CV as well. But since this is a laptop that will accompany me for at least the next 2 years of my college life, I would really want to see the difference between committing to one or the other.

    Hope someone with the SXGA will chime in soon[ :)]

    I used SXGA+ on a 15' laptop for a while and thought that that was annoying when reading text or word processing (Now I use XGA 15'). So I guess on a 14' its gonna be even more annoying. And if it is for univ then I guess there will be a lot of text use involved, and most concerning is PDFs which sometimes tend to be a bit blurry and at hi res, well good luck reading anything without getting a headache.

    You shouldn't run in none native resolution, if it compensates it's going to be blurry, and if it just runs on part of the screen in a window it would be like carrying a 14' and using a 12'!

    + IT'S A CV SCREEN!!! [ :D]

    I am going for an S7 too, I will go for a CV XGA. But I decided to wait till I get back from X-mass vacation to order. I am hoping that by then the new S7011 will have made the trip across the pacific to the USA! If not I guess I'll have to settle for the S7010.

    Just to avoid confusion!

    The S7 is an SXGA+ not an SXGA...
    SXGA = 1280x1024
    SXGA+ = 1400 X 1050

    Thanks for the info qwester!
    You raise a really good point about those PDF files! I do have to deal with them for a good amount of time.
