To all you N6410 and N3530 owners.

Anyone dare open up your machines to see if the Duo core chip is soldered or in the usual chip housing? If its not soldered it opens posibilities of self upgrades like what some one did with a core solo mac mini to 2.16 duo core! Whats more interesting is that we could possibly upgrade to 64 bit Merom when they come out (the pins might be the same but not sure motherboard is compatible) ??

So anyone peek under the lid yet?

The Merom idea is a cool one (although I won't be the first one to try it. I am an early adopter type but I'm not careless). Rumor has it that Intel will be putting Merom chips into Napa boards until the Crestline chipset is introduced early next year, but I would imagine you would still need a BIOS that would support it as well. Another factor may also be availablility of Merom chips outside ODM channels. Maybe us Core Duo folks won't get left behind after all. Who knows?

ha! wishful thinking, but intel does report (imply?) that the napa board/945 chipset will be upgradeable to merom. but i'm not a careless one either!
