I have the above Lifebook B Series, along with the specs. This device had a serious virus infestation, so much so that I had to wipe the hard drive intenting to format and clean install Windows XP Professional. As you can see from the specs I have added a USB 1.1 Portable Diskette Drive (which works perfectly) a USB 2.0 PCMCIA Card, and a USB 1.1 Memorex CD-RW, which I cant get the bios to recognize in the boot sequence at all. I followed RaZZNuts (from the forum) advice (8/20/10) for reformatting: (This is the official instruction from Fujitsu website for third-party CD-ROM): http://www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com/support...y_process.html, and followed the instructions for editing the config.sys line: (DEVICE=A:\USBCDROM\USBCD.SYS /D:OEMCD001) still nothing. No device recognition at all. I dont have any problem with the diskette drive being recognized in the boot sequence, but the cd-rw is giving me mucho problems. Can anyone throw me a lifeline? Is this simply editing the config.sys the correct way? I really hope so because without the CDROM I can't clean install Windows XP Professional. I certainly can't install it with diskettes.
This is what config.sys looked liked BEFORE I edited it:
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE /RAM
DEVICE=OAKCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001
FILES=20
BUFFERS=20
DOS=HIGH,UMB
STACKS=9,256
This is what config.sys looked liked AFTER I edited it:
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE /RAM
DEVICE=A:\USBCDROM\USBCD.SYS /D:OEMCD001
FILES=20
BUFFERS=20
DOS=HIGH,UMB
STACKS=9,256
After I edited the config.sys I got the following error message: The following file is missing or corrupted A:\USBCDROM\USBCD.SYS. There is an error in your config.sys file on line 3.

Have you checked the floppy disk to ensure that a file called USBCD.SYS is in a folder called USBCDROM? It is possible that USBCD.SYS is not in a folder and line 3 of config.sys should read DEVICE=A:USBCD.SYS /D:OEMCD00

Thanks for the reply John, however, I''m still getting the same error messages after I added the USBCDROM/USBCD.SYS folder in config.sys. Could it be possible that I'm using a boot disk that isn't workable with LifeBook? The only boot disks I can use are made from Windows XP or Windows 98. Are there any alternatives to this? Can a boot disk be made specifically for LifeBook?

Would an alternative strategy be to temporarily remove the HDD and put in an external enclosure, copy the entire Windows installation disc into a folder on the HDD, replace the HDD and then use the floppy to boot so that you can go to the Windows installer and start it running?
