Wireless LAN working in AC mode.

Wireless LAN not working in battery mode. Physical level: Intel Driver shows good/excellent signal strength and shows correct ssid. Protocol level: Cannot acquire IP address shows error message about limited connectivity, if put to static IP no error message. But either way no packets sent nor received!

    Notebook: Fujitsu S6230
    Chipset: from Centrino
    OS: WinXP SP2
    Router: NB1300
    Access Point: Minitar MN54G4R

The Minitar is used as access point only with DHCP disabled.
    NB1300 DHCP enabled.
Another PC has Minitar MN54GPC-R PCI card is working.

Reach around the back and turn wifi off, then on via hardware switch. Does it connect then? Did you exclude all your neighbors wifi routers?

By my unofficial count, there's perhaps a half dozen people having wifi connection problems with the S6231. Perhaps this is why the next version is going to atheros.

I find that in the "Intel PROSet/Wireless" window it says,
"Authentication process to connect to the network hasn't been started."

On AC power everything works and I don't get that message.

Intel/Pro Wireless 2200BG is the problem. Just read the 8 page thread of owners of dell, sony, hp, compaq, fujitsu, ibm, acer, averatec, sharp, etc laptops with one thing in common: Intel/Pro Wireless 2200BG. If I would have known the intel radio had issues, I probably would have gotten an S7010d with Atheros wifi. Because that is the only problem I had.

And intel wants to blame it on wap manufacturers not implementing power polling correctly. That's BS. The wifi card when negotiating a connection with the access point should be programmed to ask "yoohoo, do you do power polling?" "no? ok we'll disable it on our end, then"

I'm surprised no one has started a class action lawsuit against intel. I was able to get mine to work to my satisfaction, but that's kinda like saying I don't mind the spot on the carpet ever since I moved a piece of furniture on top to hide it. I would rather the spot was not there.

Also kinda surprised that no one pointed me to the megathread in the networking and wireless forum when I originally noticed connection drops. My advice to everyone from now on will permanently include "don't ever buy a laptop with an intel wifi card inside". Pentium M is good, but there are other choices for wifi.

That's too bad, I tell everyoen I see to get hte Atheros card, must have missed you somehow. The Atheros supports Super G too.
