I just ordered one direct from Fujitsu USA. They are the same price and also offered either a free printer or a USB 160g external HD with it...for free. I choose the external HD. So with my local sales tax of 6%....it was $1005 total.

Can't wait. I got tired of researching and trying to figure out which one of the millions of laptops would fit my needs......after a full year! Sure seems like a sweet deal for the specs compared to the higher end Asus or Sony ones I was looking at...($1500-1700).

Good choice. I own a Lifebook S7110 since March 2007. Absolutely no problems whatsoever :) And to top it all, amazing GNU/Linux compatibility. I'm waiting for the models to be released in the Canadian site. Hoping that they'll include the new Business notebooks too!

    @ msrinath80
The AH550 is on sale at Costco Canada (Costco.ca) for $999CAD -$100 Mfg Coupon = $899CAD.
N.B. taxes are charged on the $999CAD though, since it's a manufacturer's rebate.
    They also have the NH570 on sale for $1,249CAD - $150CAD = $1,099CAD.
    It's an 18.4" w/ i5 430M, Geforce 330M, 4GB Ram & 500GB HD.
I'm interested in these, but I'm not familiar with the Fujitsu brand.

Is the lifebook ah550 a quiet laptop??? or is it like HP laptops where the fan constantly runs at a low/medium speed???

Anyone have experience with Fujitsu laptops and how quiet they are....can you hear the fan in a quiet room?

    Thank You

ps. want to purchase this laptop from costco.ca but need to know if it will be quieter than the current HP one I have which is not quiet at all since the fan is constantly on

The fan on my Lifebook S7110 turns on every 20-30 odd seconds (remains on for about 5-8 seconds) even when idle. Yes, you can easily hear it in a quiet room :)

I do not know how quiet the AH550 is, however, I have a Fujitsu A6020 and it seems to have a thermal sensor that turns the fan on and off depending on how hot the chip is. In a dead quiet room, I can hear it when I leave it on a power hogging task all the way in the other room! It is an annoyance when you are trying to sleep, but if you are awake and listening to music then it doesn't affect you much.

any recent experience with the 550? Fry's has a good price right now. My concern is with service. I am told Fujitsu makes their own motherboards and parts can be expensive. Pound for pound, this laptop is a great value.

    check out this thread

    http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/costco-100-00-off-fujitsu-lifebook-ah550-pro-core-i5-hot-846600/

i got the laptop and its ok, a little bulky, the fan cycles on every 30 seconds which can be annoying and noisy, but the battery life is excellent(5 hours) and the screen isnt bad either, one down side is when i am typing on it my thumb/palm hits the touchpad and the mouse clicks where ever it was last left (ex. typing in word mouse is in the middle of a paragraph and im typing, the mouse clicks and I keep typing in the random spot)they could have made the touchpad bigger

also not a big problem for me personally but this thing is a fingerprint/dust magnet...the keyboard isnt because its a different type of plastic (spill-resistent keyboard) same with the touchpad but the rest of it attracts everything....

also the speakers arent that great but I didnt expect much from laptop speakers anyways
and the mic hole is at the bottom of the screen beside the Fujitsu label, which i think is too close to the speakers reducing clarity

feel free to pm me if you have any questions
    :)

    Ruthless,

Have you been able to do anything about the fan noise? I am experiencing the same issue and I find it very frustrating. Should a fan cycle that much and if so, should it be that loud? I can hear it clear across the room and it is constant. I also agree that the touchpad is very sensitive. Any suggestions on how to reduce the fan noise would be appreciated. I will say that if I had known how loud it would be, I would not have bought the AH550. I consider it a defect.

I have an S6520, so I'm not sure this will work for the AH550.

Anyway, on my machine, if you go into the BIOS menu at startup, there is an option for "quiet cooling" mode. That might do the trick.

    Chris,

I called Tech Support because I could not find anything in the BIOS to lower the sound of the fan. They told me on this model it is not in the BIOS. Go figure. I must say I am pretty irritated by now. I have place three calls to Fujitsu with very little luck. If I can't alter the BIOS, is there someplace else to change the fan settings?

    Thanks,

    GG
