    Like a lot of people who are buying a new laptop, it comes with Windows Vista. In my case I wanted to have the option of dual-booting. So for me I wanted to install XP first followed by vista but I had problems installing windows XP onto my notebook because it wasn’t detecting the hard drive. The most simplest way around it is to use a floppy disk which contains the drivers for the hard drive and push f6 when it says if you need to install a SCSI or RAID controller. Now most people don’t have a USB floppy drive. So the alternative is to slipstream the drivers into an XP cd. This is a guide on how i went about doing it. Please note there are two guides here so please scroll down further till you reach the the word EDIT the second way is one which can be used for every laptop besides xi and besides fujitsu :)

    To start I would recommend that all drivers and information needed are backed up prior to attempting this (or burn them onto CD). (plz note I do not take responsibility for anyone who does this. You do this at your own risk)

    In my case I was doing this for my Fujitsu Siemens Laptop (Xi 1554).

    This is how I went about doing it.

    1. The software/hardware needed
    * Windows XP CD with service pack 2 (SP2)
    * nLite
    * Also a CD-Burner (and blank-Cds)
    * XP drivers for the hard drive

    2. Create the following Folders

    C:\CDImages\Drivers\
    C:\CDImages\XPCD\

    3: Preparing the Drivers

    Go to the Fujitsu Siemens Website and download the hard-drive driver dedicated for XP.
    If your having difficulty finding your drivers but know what it is i would recommend checking out www.driverpacks.net they have a huge database of drivers for MassStorage controllers (PATA, SATA, SCSI, RAID)

    Extract the ZIP file

    Then open up and go to “ DriverDisk” and copy the items in that folder elsewhere (e.g. “C:\CDImages\Drivers\” )

    Then within the 'Drivers' folder go into ‘ i386\NT5’ Folder and copy all the files except the txtsetup.oem (you will need the other txtsetup.oem file which is already in drivers folder)
    Paste it back in “C:\CDImages\Drivers\” and delete the folders in there
    So you should be left with this in your “C:\CDImages\Drivers\”:

    For those with Xa will have to go to the AMD folder instead

    [IMG]

    Open up “ TXTSETUP.OEM” in NOTEPAD

    In the section [DISKS] you will need to edit the driver directory listing. Hence this line:

    D-I386-NT5-RAid='VIA V-RAID Driver Diskette',\I386\VIAMRAID, \I386\NT5

    Needs to be changed into this:

    D-I386-NT5-RAid='VIA V-RAID Driver Diskette',\VIAMRAID.SYS, \

    And save the file:

    [IMG]

    4.0: Creating the XP CD

    Using Nlite

    Follow the instructions given and copy the XP cd into C:\CDImages\XPCD
    Then skip the preset by pressing next…

    [IMG]

    4.1 Task selection
    under task selection press drivers and bootable ISO…you will know that both have been selected as both will turn blue and click next:

    [IMG]

    4.2 Drivers
    go to insert then single driver then when its asks you to choose any inf file go to c:\CDImages\Drivers and select the VIAMRAID file and click open. When you click 'open' another window called 'driver integration options' will open. Select “ VIA- V-RAID Controller Series (Windows XP)” and then “ Regular PNP driver” tab.

    [IMG]

    Then click ok and it will revert back to the drivers windows and click next. It will ask you if you want to start the process then click yes.

    It will integrate the drivers:

    [IMG]

    Once it is done then click next Then create an Image (ISO) of it and then mount (burn) that image onto CD. You can use nlite of nero or whatever tickles your fancy. I used nlite and it worked perfectly fine.

    [IMG]

    Once you mounted (burnt it), label it and your good go. You have an XP cd with your drivers installed :) this time when you boot up it will detect your hard drive :D

    Hope this helps.

    EDIT: METHOD 2

    This is an alternative method that will create an XP CD slipstreamed with a large number of 'Mass Storage Drivers..so this method could be attempted by anyone not just fujitsu users. I would suggest that prior to doing this you back up all the drivers that you will need on to CD. I would also suggest that you check that the drivers that are needed are in the list of drivers that come in with this package.

    Please note i do not take responsibility for this. Do this at your own risk

    1. Software/Hardware needed
    * NLite
    * DriverPack Mass Storage
    * DriverPacks BASE
    * CD-BURNER
    * Blank CD
    * Windows XP with service pack 2 (SP2)

    2. Create the following Folders

    C:\CDImages\DriversPack\
    C:\CDImages\XPCD\
    C:\CDImages\ISO\

    3. Downloading DriverPack files
    Download DriverPacks BASE to C:\CDImages\DriversPack\
    extract it... you will get the following folders:

    [IMG]

    Then download DriverPack MassStorage (have a look on the website as they update all packages they have there on a regular basis) to C:\CDImages\DriversPack\DriversPack\

    4. Copying the XP CD

    Using Nlite

    Follow the instructions given and copy the XP cd into C:\CDImages\XPCD

    5. Slipstreaming the drivers

    Leave Nlite open and now run the DPs_BASE application in C:\CDImages\DriversPack\

    Select your language and click apply then click next twice

    5.1 Select location of platform

    Click the browse button and set the loaction of the platform as C:\CDImages\XPCD\ you will know if

    it is right as it will tell you in the location section what Operating System it is :

    [IMG]

    5.2 Select the DriverPacks to slipstream

    Select DriverPack MassStorage and tick the DriverPack MassStorage text mode and click next (>)

    5.3 Slipsteam Method

    Select method 1 click next

    5.4 Choose the methods to start the finisher

    Select GUIRunOnce click next

    5.5 KTD

    Select Enablge KTD for ALL slipstremaed DriverPacks
    and also select default under KTD cache location:

    [IMG]

    click next

    5.6 QuickStream Cache

    select Enable QuickStream Cache

    Keep clicking next until you get to UdpateChecker. Make sure that the driverpack is up to date and then click next.

    Then at the final page click slipstream this process will take aroudn 30secs-3mins depending on your notebook and what your running in the background (one time it took 1min 30 sec and another time it took 33 secs :))

    6.0 Back to nLite to create the CD
    After this go back to Nlite and click next until you get to Task Selection (here you can do what you want as in if you know how to use nlite)

    Click bootable ISO and click next

    Then create an image of the iso into C:\CDImages\ISO\

    [IMG]

    Then after change the mode to burn image and Burn that image onto a blank CD. You will have a XP cd with a large collection of hard drive drivers...(just to make sure...when you have burnt the cd open it up and make sure a folder called $OEM$ is in the root)

    Now when booting up from the CD and going through the XP intial stages of it loading up things etc you wont need to push f6. Also note it will take a lot longer to load up the intial stages before choosing to install xp but if you look across the bottom you will see it will load up all the different MassStorage drivers (hopefully yours will be there and it will detect it) :)

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

    MAYER played a major role in this method i tested it to make sure it worked and it picked up my hard drive :) so a big respect goes to mayer (and to me aswell :p) for finding this way! also checked it on my laptop and my friends one and worked for it :)

    hope this helps..

    Sunny

    Please note any ideas to add to this or to improve it etc plz let me know and i will add it to this post...and let me know if it works for you...

    Great Guide, sunjhoon. I think this deserves to be a sticky (first sticky on the Fujitsu forum). :)

    Thanks Sunnny! I just did it your way and this guide is brilliantly put together and right to the point. Respect for taking the time to get the pic links in there as well, it really helped to be assured that what I was doing was actually right!

    The only thing I did differently was that I used a sata driverpack from www.driverpacks.net instead of the ones from the FS site cuz for some reason I couldn't get those to integrate.

    But thanks a lot man, I agree with Zero, this guide should definitely be a sticky cuz I'm sure a lot of people out there might run into this problem with XP install not detecting their sata drives and when that happens they'll 'google' the problem and they'll eventually find this site. And thats a good thing right?

    Anyway, if you want to, you can add that link to driverpacks.net cuz I used their driverpack which integrates perfectly and it has pretty much every make of hard drive drivers in it...you know, for other peeps..

    So thanks again.
    I'm still configuring XP to suit my needs and I haven't got it right just yet, driver and performance wise...but at least I've got it eventually. THANK YOU.

    Cheers
    Enjoy Yoself!

    Well mayer im glad it helped you...bit strange that that it didnt integrate im curious what happened did it not pick the drivers up? and also when you added the drivers from www.driverspack.net did you still have to edit the txtsetup.oem or did you go straight into the integrating the drivers (will edit my one as to how you went about urs aswell) and i wouldnt mind if it became a sticky :D and cool will edit it...

    oh and mayer if you do come across problems for the drivers let me know and i will help cos when i first did it there was no sound until i install the modem drivers...there was one device not recoginised i think that the sound and modem are interconnected

    anyway just doing my bit to help :)

    EDIT: also a big thank you to everyone on this forum and you zero aswell for pointing me in the right direction when i did this...before i had no idea but you showed me the light at the end of the tunnel :)

    EDIT AGAIN: It a sticky :D wow! thats well cool! the first sticky for the fujitsu forum :)

    Scwheet, it is a sticky! Haha...nice one!

    Ummm, I think the only reason it didn't work when I used the FS drivers from the site, sunny, was because I made the ISO wrong afterwards with Nero...but I only thought of that after I got it right using nLite...if you know what I mean. Because to use nLite to actually burn a bootable cd, you have to select the 'Direct Burn' option instead of 'Create Image' under the mode tab in the last screen.

    I guess it happened cuz I was copying you parrot fashion and didn't stop to think so I must've just burned the ISO directly onto the cd and then got frustrated when it didn't work so I thought it was the drivers...doh...

    But I see you mentioned the driverpack.net site now...its just that I didn't integrate the pack from that site with nLite, I'm not sure if its possible to do it using nLite but I used a little program you can download from that site. Its on the same web page as all the driverpacks (and again...I'm not trying to steal your thunder...hehe...but you can edit this into your sticky as well...if you want to.):

    1. Go to www.driverpacks.net and download the 'Mass Storage Driver Pack' and 'DP_BASE' files. DP_BASE is just a small program you use to slipstream the driverpacks from driverpacks.net. You can slipstream the other packs onto your custom XP cd if you want but the mass storage pack alone should get XP to recognize the SATA.

    2. Here's where it gets a little tricky. Once you've downloaded the files, run DPs_BASE_7016.exe. This loads a slipstreaming program and creates a few folders on your desktop. Put the driver files (.7Z) into the newly created "Driver Packs" directory which by default is on your desktop (depends on where you install DP_BASE). Then run DPs_BASE.exe. Click the > button a couple of times, leave the installation platform on disc, click browse and choose the root location of your XP directory (the one you'll be creating a .msi out of), click >, then be sure to select both "Driver Pack mass storage 7.01.1" and "DriverPack Mass Storage Text Mode". Click >, choose method 1, click >, choose GUIRunOnce, click > twice, choose "Enable KTD for all..." (probably doesn't matter), click > twice, choose "Enable quick stream cache", click > 3 times, make sure everything is up to date (which it should be since you just downloaded it), then click the "Slipstream!" button and watch it write to your XP directory.

    So thats how I managed to get it right, its just cuz that driverpack has a hell of a lot of disk drivers in it so it must've found the right one somewhere...I think it was VIA. And the 2 points above I found on a different site and followed it exactly and it worked so it should work for others...unless you've got some really obscure make of hard drive..

    Anyway...couldn't have done it without this thread, thanks again.
    And I ran 3Dmark06 just now...I got 3439 pts...is that close to your score?

    Cheers

    Very nice article sir.
    Good tutorial on creating an XP CD plus drivers.
    But it still doesn't work :cry:

    It is Compaq Presario V3220TU:
    Core 2 Duo 1.7, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB SATA, originally with DOS.
    It's not mine actually :D

    When installing XP, it always crashed and showed the blue screen, with message something like error in "pci.sys" file.

    Ubuntu 6.10 works fine.

    Help me please, how to install XP? Thanks... :eek:

    It does work :p but i think i found the solution to your problem... are you using a windows xp cd sp1?

    if so you need to use windows cd sp2 and then follow the remainder of the instructions..that should work...i will edit the procedure so that it will say windows xp sp2 cd.

    its to do with the pci-express slot i believe

    heres
    some more info on it

    hello, I am trying to follow the instructions of method 2 and got one question. is everything at point 3 written correctly? I am refering to this line:

    C:\CDImages\DriversPack\DriversPack\

    after extracting dp Base in there, however, I get a folder called driverpackS!

    Should I make a new folder called driverpack or can I extract the dp-Mass in:

    C:\CDImages\DriversPack\DriversPacks\ ?

    it should be fine to download the dp-mass into that folder it created (i.e driverpackS!)...if it created that folder like that then place it in there..(could be to do with a new software)

    if you keep reading on the method...at 5.2 you select what you driverpacks you want to slipstream...you will know if you have put it in the right folder because because it will detect it there and only let you tick the driver packs that it has detected (i.e the ones put in the right folder)...

    also if it works and you install xp fine then plz do comment to let ppl know it works...

    and also forgot to mention and will edit the main guide now that this method needs an xp cd sp2 (with service pack 2)

    and if you have problems plz let me know so i can try to help :)

    Used this method to get my Fujitsu Amilo 1505 to detect its new HDD, and pleased to say worked a treat.

    Used XP MCE which is 2 cd's, nLite asked for the 2'nd cd when compiling info but i were a little worried when it came to burning the ISO which at this point was 877mb, aka - too big. Unsure what to do , i used a blank dvd-r and burned image , and nLite was happy to oblige :)

    So managed to sort the Amilo and condense my 2cd MCE to 1 DVD @ the same time.

    Thanks very much guys, u saved my bacon :)

    Thanks for this wonderfull tutorial

    i am trying to slipstream my via raid driver since 3 months and burned abt 50+ cds with msfn trick :(
    but i must say ur step by step tutorial is so easy that even a noob can make it with ease

    u know when i burnt and tried am surprised that it wont ask for flopy(before with msfn trick it says viaraid.sys not found)

    mate realy a wonerfull tutorial..................

    i need to know some other questions.
    like can i use nlite after raid slipstream coz i need to integrate hotfixes and some other addons in my cd

    and other thing i wanna know how can i integrate all the driver pack :)

    i wanna make a xp with all the drivers and softwares in it....

    but again one question

    when i integrate driver pack in xp it size may exceed with 300 mbs so it wud be around 1 gb....

    but i want to burn that iso in cd only
    coz i dont have dvd writer :(

    don tell me to split them with winrar coz it wont work i tried

    i wanna know how to split any os which is bigger than 700 mbs
    see i ve some games which comes in dvd format
    but shop keeper splited them for cd so that when 1cd part ends it asks for 2cd (insert 2nd cd to continue)

    i need this command to come on window which ask me to insert the cd with volume number...
    i know am asking too much
    but u r realy genius and u ve the answer definately

    thanking u

    you can add hotfixes etc i believe that wen you do put to insert other driver there is an option to add hotfixes and other things aswell...

    as for size well i dont know where my nlite cd of windows xp is but it did fit onto a cd and i did put my other drivers (like ATI, Soundcard etc) they fit but it will tell you how much space it is taking before you make it...it is an iso image so it should compress it slightly i believe

    alternatively you could look online...there are guides on making an xp cd using nlite...where ppl have removed some of the unessential software that they wont use that comes with xp when installing it..

    i think nlite if you are burning onto cd may do it so that it will ask for the second cd to mount onto aswell...im not sure but i will have a look and get back to u

    ho yus ! ..now dual booting..sweet :)

    I followed the second method and it was spot on, then used my vista disk to fix the mbr followed by installing easyBCD to manage the bootloader

    its all good *does the happy dance*

    The Xi2528 is very nice btw.. good solid physical build..it was an upgrade from a m3438G (which i experienced alot of mobo & gfx problems with) it definately a marked improvement in build quality, i havent really put it through its paces yet as getting XP running on it was a priority..and now its done

    Many thanks.. your stars!

    OK, i have a small problem

    my disk setup is 2 x 250gb sata, originally (out of the box) this was configured as 250Gb Vista partition called C:\ and a 250Gb free partition called E:\

    I shrunk C:\ and created another 110Gb partition on this disk called F:\

    F:\ is where i installed XP

    using easyBCD when i boot to Vista, Vista is called called C:\ and XP is called F:\

    ..and when i boot to XP, Vista is called C:\ and XP is called E:\

    from what i have read i want to set this up so either OS is seen as C:\ when booted

    I assume it would do this by default if my vista & XP partitions were C:\ and D:\ respectively

    How can i safely go about setting my system up like this ?

    is it OK to just change the drive name F:\ to D:\ using vista's disk managment tools then setup EasyBCD to point at D:\ instead of F:\ ?

    the XP partition has the OS on only.. no apps

    Hello.

    I have just run my xi2528 on windows XP and it worx times good than on Vista. All drivers are categorized on http://servbg.com/xi2528/

    Currently working with them and all working (except some IR remote functions)

    I post it here, because i spent a lot of time trying and trying to run XP on this machine. At last it works and i want to share it with you and maybe spend you time.

    Hope there'll be better support from manufacturers on other OSes, not only M$.

    Hoi,

    I used the second method and the xp install of the fujitsu Siemens worked fine.
    I did put the new drivers in a cd with Windows XP pro witch i use, to repair xp systems.
    Regulary i use also the repair console and i noticed here that after installing the driverpack with second method, the cd will not stop anymore by repairconsole but directly goes to the partitionselection module.

    I tryed different things but the repair is not working.

    My question is, how can i fix this module so i can use this cd for repairing systems with all features of the original cd (like fixmbr, fixboot, ect.) and also having the new drivers for the Sata-drives.

    Hoi,

    I my earlyer post i had the problem with the repairconsole that was disabled.
    The installation of the drivers is build up as an unattended installation and makes that starting up xp wil directly goes to the partitionsetup.
    Repairconsole wil not be activated.

    To fix this, you go to the I386-folder and search for the "WINNT.SIF"-file.
    Open the file in notepad and skip the "unattend" part.

    [Unattended]
    OemPreinstall=Yes
    DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore
    NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore
    OemPnpDriversPath="D\M\3;D\M\3B\...etc.
    [GUIRunOnce]
    command9="%SystemDrive%\DPsFnshr.exe"

    [GUIRunOnce] and its parameter has to stay in the file.

    After deleting the unattend-part, you save the file.
    Then make the image with N-lite en burn it on cd.
    Now the repairconsole wil appear and all drivers wil be loaded to on the notebook.
