(My apologies if this has been asked recently)

I'm narrowing down my choices for a notebook where I can do some pro(ish) photo retouching on the road. I realize that there will be some compromises compared to a calibrated desktop/CRT system, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried to profile a crystal view LCD and, if so, if they're getting (close to) the expected output from edited images when printing (on a profiled printer).

Other than that - a more general way of phrasing it, I like the way the CV screens look for regular use (naturally), but am wondering if they can be toned down enough (contrast?) when needed for retouching/skin tone, etc. work.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ed.

I was hoping someone had given it a try.
Any chance anyone can stop by one of the pages linked to at the bottom of this post (or any page with a step wedge) and let me know if you can make out all the different shades of gray (and if not, if it's possible to adjust the screen so that you can)?

I'm just worried about taking the plunge and buying one without knowing, and I don't have the ability to see one in person. I'd sure appreciate any input -- even if it's just a general feeling/opinion as to the suitabiliy of CV screens for photo work.

I went to all those links and saw all the boxes each time. Not sure if that's what you wanted to know. You could get your fujitsu from P1. They will let you return it if you don't like it. You'll only be out shipping, I think. Test drive of a laptop doesn't come cheaper or fairer than that.

I would say that for me, the last 2 on the black side are hard to differentiate even at max brightness

Thanks for the replies. (sorry, haven't made it back to the forum for a while). Chances are I'll go with the P1 suggestion (and will post results/calibration impressions to this thread).
