Fujitsu's literature leads one to beleive that the Crystal View displays are visible (or at least usable) in outside lighting conditions which would normally wash out most LCD screens.

Can someone comment on this as to whether the screens are truly visible outside to any degree. I guess the next obvious question if the answer is yes - why aren't they using Crystal View in their Tablet PCs if this is the case (or maybe that is coming) since that seems an obvious match.

The answer is yes, but the experience is still not perfect, nor can it be with a traditional display. For the record, Fujitsu does have a slate Tablet with an outdoor screen. It's a 10.4" display they created themselves.

Instead of a matte plastic look of regular lcd screens the crystalview looks like a piece of glass very shiny and glossy. It does seem sharper and brighter but what I question is the glare.

Just like a glass crt tube any light source can be seen in the screen. In the Frys I was in you could very clearly see every light hanging from the ceiling.

Right, which is why so far in my life, I preferred the non-gloss screens. This was a major reason that I went Fujitsu instead of Sony for my ultra port.
