I have recently started geting problems when trying to burn DVDs. The finised disc will only play for approx ten minutes in any DVD player. When I look at the disc, there is a distinct difference in the colour of te disc near the centre, which then gets lighter the further out on the disc it goes. I know it's not the discs themselves as I have tried them on different laptops.

Is it simply my DVDRW drive which has gone, or has anyone any fixes for this?

    Thanks

PS the laptop in question is an Amilo LI1718

The optical drive is one of the least durable parts of a notebook and it is most likely that it is past its best. You could try to clean the lens and make sure that no dust is clossing the mechanism.

Almost all notebook burners are standard 1/2" thick units and replacements cost $50 upwards. The newer models tend to have slightly better DVD burning and Lightscribe is an option.

    Hi.

Are you using the same make of blank disk, or are you having problems with other brands.

I had spindle of 25 bad DVD`s the other day, you could see they were faulty just by looking at the bottom of the disk.

    regards

    John.
