I'm going to buy a Fujitsu S6000/7000 (don't know which one yet) and I'm having a problem deciding on how much RAM I need. I'm considering either 512MB, 768MB, or 1GB of RAM. I will be using my laptop mainly for heavy internet surfing with hispeed, lots and lots of word documenting, lots of DVD/media usage and occasional image editing and such. Which would you guys reccomend me to have?

It depends on how much ram it comes with on how many dimms. If it's 512 on 2 dimms (256 x 2) get a 512 on one dimm for 768 and sell the other 256. If it has 512 on 1 dimm then go for 1G.

768mb or 1G will be plenty for what you want to do with your rig.

Get 512MB in one piece. If you find you need more, buy one more 512MB yourslef and install it. This is the cheapest way + you will only get what you need. A 512MB costs no more than 50-60 $ from newegg or other online stores.

I looked into the same thing, and decided on the 768 given the pricing differential- $75 to upgrade from 512 to 768, but $200 from 512 to 1 gig; everyone says for the same type of use you are discussing even 512 should be fine, but since it shares RAM for video, I thought 768 was a safer bet. The good thing is you can't really make a mistake- upgrading it later is cheaper than the upgrade price anyway, and it is relatively easy. Personally, I thought the money was best used towards the faster processor for $200 more on the S7020D

there is a window on the bottom of the laptop. Its cover can be removed by removing 2 screws. After that you just slide in the memory module and click it into place. ie. it's pretty simple, and no need to take anything apart to do the upgrade.

it's better to have to ram stick of the same size for the DDR thing no? then 768 isn't as good an idea
