So formatting of the HDD should not be a problem...

what I got (with E8210) is a Repair and Recovery CD. The XP is on the laptop, like with IBM HP etc.

I'm not clear exactly what's on the CD -- I had to use it to re-start after a crash which unfortunately requires wiping the hard drive -- but the Fujitsu tech on the phone said it's not a full Windows XP, whatever that means.
If anyone finds out exactly what that means, please let me know :)

I thought that it was possible to format and reinstall windows using the Recorvery Disk. generally, i think the disk is used to repair files that Windows needs to operate, if they become damaged or deleted (by an antivirus or something else).

Well, so what to do if I buy Fujitsu notebook and need to create new partitions and install WinXP on an empty disk? I am used to use 3 partitions and I would also like to install everything from new...

I suggest that you call (or Live Chat with) Fujitsu and ask. And pls let the rest of us curious folks know what they say!

I formatted my N6210 and reinstalled Win XP w/ SP2 via the recovery disk with no problems. I think what the tech meant when he said it's not a full Win XP disk is that it's an OEM disk that will not work, for example, in an IBM. It may even refuse to work in a different model Fujitsu, but I don't have a different model Fujitsu to try it on. However, I've used an OEM Gateway CD from one computer to install Windows on another Gateway computer (but when I tried it on a Dell it said, this ain't a Gateway).

The process when formatting with this disk was different than the process with a non-OEM Win XP w/ SP2 disk. For example, I got the Fujitsu logo and some Fuji-provided pictures when it was formatting. And, it didn't stop every few minutes during the install to ask what time zone you want to use and what not. Instead, it saved all those questions to when I rebooted after the install, and the questions it presented were identical to the ones you see when you buy a new computer. "So you bought a computer, and it's got Windows installed, but you have to agree to this license before you can use it. If you don't like it, take it back." - or whatever it says.

The point is, the CD is different from what you'd buy in store, but it's no worse if you want to format. It even set the starfish wallpaper as the default, instead of the grass & sky one - just like if it was brand new :)
