yes, congrats! i'm still waiting...
...coming direct from Fujitsu Japan. but i'm fine with that as P1 is my peace of mind (service and support) hookup!
-
Any idea what type of 3d benchmarks why can get out of the x1400? Im a bit concerned about that myself as I enjoy games like BF2, CoD2, and WoW..
-

x1400 is not a high-end gamer GPU: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33844803&highlight=ATI+MR+x1400. but i'm not much of a gamer anymore so it's not a biggie to me...

just found out that mine is delayed (custom Fujitsu CTO) due to Fujitsu Japan being back-ordered on the 7200RPM drives
--- but Ivan at P1 is great and I may opt for x2 the 100GB 5400RPM drives --- more storage in lieu of blazing speed
. they (Japan) quoted a possible ship date of 3/23 if i stayed with the 7200RPM
--- and i just can't wait that long.
-

Wow...I would do the same. I don't want to wait that long for a back-ordered part. The 5400 should suffice, you can just turn up the performance instead of quiet to get some more performance out of it.
-
Sorry to hear that. Mine will be delivered today. =) -
isvara_pranidhana Notebook Consultant
yes, i'm now re-thinking my options. even with the switch to the 5400RPM drives, they're quoting at least another 10 days
! i'm tempted to scrap the P1 order and go the newegg.com route (or the custom MSI MS-1036 - which was my contender). i hate this delay/second-guessing stuff! let me know your thoughts on the N6410 when you get it --- i still might opt to wait even though i've got some time-constraint issues.
-
yeah unfortunately when you order a notebook right when it is released there almost always seems to be some issue with parts shipping etc. I will be getting a N6410 today to do a review. The review should be posted within 1-2 weeks.

? i wouldn't be angry if these units weren't already hitting other 'mainstream' resellers though (like newegg.com). and it's about the hard drives???? even the 5400RPMs??? at least 10 more days on top of the 14 already? puh-lease!

well... i couldn't wait. i cancelled the N6410 order and opted for the new HP nx9420 which i can get by the end of next week. there are some benefits and trade-offs, but time was the main issue. i need this rig like yesterday! i've got a shrinking window of opportunity to obtain a slew of $$$ software and i also need this for a consulting gig. i'm sad though! i'll miss the Fujitsu forum
new signature soon -
Good luck with your new HP!
As a side note, I love the N6410. Id review it, but Im busy configing/installing everything.
(About to run BF2----while crossing my fingers) -
Sorry to hear about your woes with delays, isvara. Should be ordering my N3530 next week. Hope I don't run into any hold ups. If I do I'll wait it out though, since it's not so time critical in my case. Hope you enjoy you new HP rig.
And just 'cause your not getting a Fujitsu doesn't mean you can't hang with us anymore. -

thanks everyone! as usual/always - i'll be second-guessing this decision too
, but time was/is critical. circa86 -i look forward to the N6410 review just the same. awesome machine by all accounts. i'll see what i can do about reviewing the HP Compaq nx9420!

Let me tell you a little about my experience with the Lifebook N6410.
Im not sure where to start........hmm, how about FIRST impressions.
I noticed how big and heavy it was. I am used to 15'4 wxsga, a notebook that weighs 7 lbs. This notebook weighs about 10 lbs, 12 or 13 with the ac adapter.
The appearance of the notebook was striking, both stylish and professional. I liked it.
Upon starting I noticed that Fujitsu did not install AS MUCH bloatware as other manufactures I have owned(Dell and Gateway). While the LCD was big and bright----something wasn't right about the picture. Well, I ignored it and proceeded to clean up the bloatware that was present.
Almost immediately, I noticed the sound of the computer. I have NEVER heard a computer like this. I thought it was the harddrive, but I am still unclear. It was a constant buzzing, almost whining type sound. Though it wasn't extremely loud, it was certainly noticable and persistent. Yet again, I ignored it and assumed it was something unique to Fujitsus.
Within the next hour the sound started to get to me. Everything I did caused a noise. As an example, using the scroll bar on the side of a Firefox window sounded like a DJ scracthing a record. I also noticed the buzzing of the LCD, which dont' forget, also appeared somewhat disconcerting. Im not sure if its a bad driver or calibration of the screen. (I updated all my drivers when I first turned the computer on.)
Well at this point I'm still trying to ignore the sounds, and trying to fix the screen. I used every display adjustment I could think of, yet it was no help.
At this point my girlfriend comes home. She sits on the tabe opposite of me and asks me. "Whats wrong with your face?". Funny right? Not really. She said, "Why is it so red?" . I went to the bathroom and I had hives all over my cheeks. Was I allergic to the computer???!!
Dismissed this, just like everything else. I took some benadryl and went to sleep. Upon waking this morning I went to check my email and work on the display again. Guess what? Within 15 minutes I had broken out in hives again.
That was IT. Too many "issues" too soon. I am calling Newegg at 12pm EST (right when they open) and requesting a full refund.
As you can imagine, the fact I was "allergic" to a computer seemed bizarre to me. As I contemplated the situation I remembered unpacking the computer. When I lifted the screen I saw a lot of......what I dismissed as "dust particles". However, I remember seeing thin pink strands on the keyboard as well. Fiberglass?
This is not a bash against Fujitsu or Newegg. Crap happens....what can you do?
Wish me luck in finding another DTR. :/ -
isvara_pranidhana Notebook Consultant
oh no! obviously you were getting some serious 'messages'! quick! check out my post in the HP forum. only 100 units of my chosen one (EV268AA#ABA)coming in with this batch! $1899.00 base + Taxes + S&H the estimated ship date for mine is 3/14 and the intel i got from HP on the 'firmness' of that date is pretty good.
i'm sad to hear that you got a lemon! i hope your and my '2nd tries' are lucky ones!

Hehe....thanks for the info, but Im going with a Sager 5720 from xoticpc.com
It is a little bit more than I wanted to spend, but having onsite tech support and personal customer service can be invaluable at times.
(Not to mention the nVidia 7800 Go GTX) =) -
Thanks to the excellent suggestions from ChazMan and Isvara and IrishRover in a couple of other threads, I was all but convinced that my new DTR will be the Fujitsu n6410. But this morning I have elsewhere read user opinions of another Fujitsu model in the n6000 line that worry me. Of particular note is concern for very high fan noise. I'm really hoping to get away from that distraction, especially if spending nearly $2K for a unit. Any fan noise problems or similar glitches with the newest n6410?
And in the last few minutes I have read this thread and see the problems Isvara has had with is order of the n6410 and the disappointing catastrophe Barks had upon receiving his unit. So now I'm turning tail on the n6410.
It is interesting that Barks is now looking toward a Sager. That's where my search had taken me when I first entered this forum community a few days ago. Maybe I'll head back to Sager, too.
Anyone have suggestions for this fickle-minded fence-walker? With all due respect to Isvara, I've never been much of an HP fan--their equipment has always felt somewhat low quality build to me, but I've never owned one.
Thanks for your great thoughts in your great write-ups. -
Hmmm.....I guess it might have been the fan making that noise.... sure was a high pitched sound though.
-
Anytime you got a "new" model right off the line your chances of having problems are going to be greater than buying a model thats been produced for a while.
The 5720 has its problems too; however, most if not all of them are documented. I know what to expect and look for when I receive my 5720, that was not the case with the N6410.
Rob, I highly doubt you will regret it if you buy a 5720, but you might wonder "what if" should you decide not to. -
Barks-- Thanks for the tip and your previous reply in the other thread. I am going back to looking at the Sager line again.
Why are you choosing to order Sager through xoticpc.com rather than pctorque.com? (I guess I'm a little biased toward pctorque because it's right here in Tejas.)
Thanks for your thoughts. They're really helpful. -
Well, I stumbled upon them(Justin) in google.
They will match any price elsewhere, and Justin has been really great to me. He makes sure you get what you want, and they have a 1 day build time turn-a-round. They also offer 1 year onsite service for very cheap. Check out the site or give him a call.
Ask for Justin and tell him Chris Barks recommended you....he'll get a kick out of that. =)
EDIT: Its www.xoticpc.com -

I understand that. After using the Duo last night though, I have to say I wasnt that impressed. Though it was only a T2300, the performance difference between that and my 1.6 M HP notebook was minimal.
I spent a lot of time staring at the CPU usage while multitasking. Interestingly enough, one of the processsors would spike---causing a slow down---and the other would remain low. In other words, I didn't "see it working".
Nonetheless, the numbers are there to support the Duo Core. If you plan on running resource intensive programs often, its certainly not a bad option. For me though, the 2ghz will suit me better in games and give me more than enough speed for the programs I run. (That along with 2gigs of ram =) -
isvara_pranidhana Notebook Consultant
yep. good call on your part. for mine, it's all about serious multi-tasking and the proven benefits in photoshop when running the core duo. i also wanted the new napa mobo/945PM chipset for 'potential' upgradability to merom - but that was an afterthought really... i run an AMD athlon 64/HP desktop at work (dx 5150 1.79GHz, 1GB RAM) --- no complaints at all there, so i'm rolling the dice on the notebook. always was a gamblin' man!
-
Sounds like you made a great decision based on your wants and needs. Also, I have had an HP for the past few months and had absolutely no problems with it.
One things for sure, the specs on your HP are better than the Lifebook if I remember correctly. Particularly the GPU. Should you decide to play games, you wont have a problem at all. =) -
hey everybody i got in the Fujitsu N6410 review unit today! i will start a new thread for a little pre-review action
it is fantastic by the way, the screen is even improved over my amazing N6210 screen. -

Well to calm everyones fears, my 6410 has been a gem. I've experienced no issues as yet. No noises of any kind....( I write this with my toes crossed).
I can second that the case is very stylish and classic looking. I can also second the fact that there is so little bloatware.
Overall I'm quite statisfied. I'm sorry to here that others are expereincing problems. -
I really hope that Newegg are gonna be good to you barks and won't charge you a restocking fee. One of the reasons why it is easier to deal with P1, for a minimal price increase you get premium service.
-
hey irish rover, how does the N6410 lid feel to you when it is closed? is it somewhat loose?, it seems to have more "play" than it should on my review unit.
-
) and my experience thus far has been fantastic. Ivan and Victor have been nothing but great to work with and very patient over the past few weeks while I barraged them with questions and prepared to complete my purchase.
On the down side, though, it seems I'm going to be waiting a bit much like isvara was. At least 2 weeks to build and then shipped direct from Fujitsu Japan. Need to find a really distracting hobby until then so my head doesn't explode from anticipation. -
My lid closes tightly with no play. However I do put a screen protector between the keyboard and the screen. Though its so thin that I doubt that would make much of a difference.
Mach Zero is right on with P1. UPS started playing the "4 days in transit game" with me when my computer was on the way. Given my current feeling towards UPS, I called P1 and they calmed my nerves telling me that my computer would arrive in the two days originally quoted. They were great. I would not hesitate to purchase from them in the future. -
irishrover - What are you using for a screen protector? Is it homemade or did you purchase it premade specifically for your screen size? I was wondering if I shouldn't get something like that. I've been looking at this.
-
hmm, i wonder if just the unit i got has a loose connection? all well, no big deal, it isn't mine anyway, i wish it was ^_^
-
Mach Zero....I went to ShaggyMac and ordered two of the "generic" sizes...one for a 15.4" and one for the 17" 6410. IMHO the generic sizes work just great. The size fit the keyboard fine, and they do not hang out from the computer at all.
I ordered mine on a Saturday and had them in my hands by Monday. I can highly recommend them.
Do you like my new Lifebook? (Newegg)
