    I am considering buying a Fujitsu E8210 with a Core Duo T2400, 80G 5600rpm HD and 15.4 WSXGA+.
Is it possible to upgrade the CPU to a Core 2 Duo in the future. Like wise the hard disk to a 7200 rpm unit.

I have seen reviews claiming the E8210 runs hot, have other users experienced this.

Any comments re the quality of the 15.4 WSXGA+ screen

In terms of hardware, yes you cn install the Core 2 Duo, because your current processor is a Core Duo. Core Duo's provide the upgrade path for Core 2 Duo. However, after having a look at the website, it seems that your notebook doesn't sell with a Core 2 Duo processor. Therefore, no BIOS upgrade is availble, and that means that you can't.

Maybe, in the future, Fujitsu will decide to add Core 2 Duo, nd then they'll release an update to the BIOS, where it will support Core 2 Duo. Bear in mind, that if you do upgrade the processor, that it will probably void your warranty. Hope this helps.

In Germany is selling a E8210-Modell with build-in T7200-CPU - so i think you can change it to this CPU!

I read (in this Review), the hot-points are only on the back-side on one place - i think where the Ram Module sits.

If that is the case, then yes you can upgrade. First you'll have to find a suitable BIOS, that supports Core 2 Duo for your notebook, and then install the Core 2 Duo. It should work.

    Hi Orbis,

The original BIOS does not support Core 2 Duo. However, if you update it, the new BIOS supports.

I found out that Fujitsu-Siemens has a new BIOS which supports Core 2 Duo for E8210. You can find more information here.

    http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/com/support/downloads.html

Before upgrading the BIOS, my E8210 ran little hot on the left side. After I did the upgrade, the left side is much cooler, and the fan spins more than before. However, it does not make noise. It is still quiet.

The new version of BIOS is 1.15 [ BIOS Flash (ISO CD-Image) - LIFEBOOK E8210]. My laptop is US model, but this BIOS is working well for me. I have not received any problems with it.

I am so happy that the laptop is cooler after upgrading the BIOS.

The keyboard is little flex, but it can be fixed. What you have to do is to find a piece of plastic (1mm thickness, same size with the keyboard, and heat resistance) and put it under the keyboard. You can fix the flex. That was my solution.

The screen quality is excellent. I give it 9.8/10. Hope this will help your decision.

Dear OCN: I'd love to upgrade my BIOS and reduce the heat on the left-top of my E8210. However, when I went to do it and downloaded the BIOS FLash (ISO CD image) as you recommended -- there seem to be a few "flavors" of the BIOS for download -- the instructions say "To flash your BIOS, boot to DOS mode and run flash.bat from the floppy disk"!!!
OK, as you know, there's no floppy disk on the laptop AND you can't boot directly into DOS from XP.
So I'd be very grateful for exact instructions as to how this actually is supposed to be done.
    Thanks!

    Hi Tammy,

Since our E8210 does not have floppy disk, we need that ISO CD Image, which creates a bootable CD. Then you will be able to flash the BIOS from that CD. There are two different types of BIOS. One is for the system with ATI graphic. The other one is for Intel graphic. Choose the one that comes with your laptop. ISO CD Image format can be burned to a CD by using CD/DVD burning applications. I use Nero.

I assume that you have a CD/DVD burning application such Nero or Roxio.

    1. Use your CD/DVD burning program (which supports .ISO image) to open that downloaded file.

    2. Burn it to a CD.

    3. Then restart your laptop. At the post boot, hit Enter to see boot menu and select CD/DVD because you want to boot from CD. Make you have that CD in your drive.

    4. You will see a DOS prompt. A\:>

    5. From here you can use DOS commands to flash the BIOS.

Before flashing it, make sure you read the readme.txt file, which is in that CD. The instruction how to flash the BIOS is in there.

You will hear several loud beeps during flashing it, but it's OK.

Restart your computer after finish flashing to make sure everything OK.

You will notice that heat on the left side is reduced.

    Good luck!

Doesen't the bios version 1.13 support core 2 duo? I got a core 2 duo and it works well, accept that I get bluescreen very often.
