    Hi,

I've searched around quite a bit but I haven't found any maintenance guide or diagrams for the Fujitsu Lifebook E8420. I'm interested in knowing what it would take to remove the hard drive from the system. I like to swap various HDs and some laptops make it harder than others. I'd appreciate any directions anyone is able to give.

    Thanks!

Most likely that's because Fujitsu's not too keen on handing them out. I swapped a drive on a A3130 not too long ago. I've no idea if the E8420 is similar. The drive was located under the touchpad. There was one panel to pop off on the bottom and two screws securing the drive to the chassis. Other than that it was a straight swap.

    Thanks, ZaZ.

Turns out, one needs to remove 12 screws and a large portion of the bottom (panel) of the e8420 to get at the HD, which as indicated is under the touchpad.

Not exactly as quick & easy as I was hoping for. x_x

Somewhat related... any idea where one can get a FPCHFK37A, so that another HD can be used in the E8420? Only places seem to be in Singapore, Taiwan, or Australia. I'm in the US...

Wow 2 hard drives in a laptop. Nice. What os do you have on your e8420. Right now I have windows 7 and xp dual boot. I wanted to put leopard on my fujitsu as well. The second hard drive might be very useful. would it fit for solid state drives?

Hey gusy, this question might sound a little bit dumb but i still want to pos it. I have a Fujitsu A6020 laptop i bought in Singapore 2 years ago and now i want to replace the HD, however im not 100% sure if this laptop can handle SATA HD... in the device manager i see couple of IDE controllers but one SATA controller, does that mean it can handle it and its just a matter of having the adapter?, i've googled the old MHV2100AT PL hard drive and it comes out as PATA.

Pull out the drive and take a look at it.

Ok, just did that and it seems its an Eide driver, just confirming.. eide is pin based? and sata is more like a usb type of conection? i also opened my PS3 which i know is Sata and both hard drives are differente..

I though most of todays laptops (eventhough mine is 2 years old) would be sata based.

    Thanks for your help
