after a long debate whether to buy the laptop or not, I bought it, and it is more than awesomely awesome... I'll put a little review here just to let the public know more about this awesome notebook.
Design:
Gotta love the design, love the keyboard and the num pad, the screen is HUGE and BRIGHT, it does give me a little headache, but i learnt how to reduce the brightness.
Game Performance:
Loading games on this baby has never been so fast! The speed is INCREDIBLE!! Graphics are just tooo incredible. As soon as i got it, I installed Halo and Doom3, which ran beautiful on the machine. The comp didnt even heat up after numerous installations of the games that i had.
Sound:
The sound system is great, i didnt have to use my external speakers to create a mini surround sound in my dorm room. Gotta love how the subwoofer intenisfies the gaming experience
DVDs:
I don't know if something is wrong with the ppl who had problems with their dvd player, but mine is perfectly fine.
Cons:
- One of the most significant drawback of this laptop is its weight.. It's incredibly bulky, and very inconvenient to travel around with. But who cares? I only travel long distance at least twice a year...
Well, these are my first impressions on this magnanimous object of beauty. I do recommend this laptop, one being a fujitsu, and two being all the things which i have experienced on the first day of usage.
-
Congtrats on the 6010! Ordered mine yesterday and am anxiously awaiting it. Glad to hear your experience so far lives up to the things I read about it.
-
Seems like everyone who has the N6010 are very happy with theirs. I have had it for about a month and I love it! Haven't done anything intensive in it except for Sims 2 so far though.
-
The base model of the N6000 (without the TV tuner) also strikes me as an incredibly good value. Beautiful screen, 128 ATI, P4--all for $2200 or so Canadian. A bargain desktop replacement. What's the catch? heh--has anyone come across any severe drawbacks? How is the keyboard flex?
-
The processor does get pretty hot under load. I've seen it up to 66degrees. But you can't feel the heat on the keyboard. There has been something I hate, is that the extra media player buttons can't be programmed for other players.
Other than that, it has been great for games, movies and even typing. It is a widescreen so I can have two windows open and sized them for half the screen. -
so far, the major drawback is the size... i just walked around in it in my back pack, at it was soooo heavy... very inconvenient for travelling.. but hey, its a desktop replacement. The fan is a little bit noisy, but thats not a problem, since i'm playing games most of the time. World of Warcraft loads extremely fast! and the wireless networking (1 Gig) works wonders!! Played WoW with wireless, and it worked just as if it was connected to a LAN. I gotta love the keyboard too! It's so nice and feels great for typing. I just had it compared with my friends HP zd800, and i found it to be much more pleasing. The design was a lot more attractive, and it had the same power. The only thing that N6010 didnt have was a bluetooth adapter, but that didnt matter. People liked my fujitsu better than his HP. The Fujitsu that i bought is 500 dollars cheaper than his.
-
The fan is louder on the N6010 than I would like, similar to the HP ZD8000, because both machines use the Pentium 4 and not the cooler running M processor. My fan is on virtually all the time but creates a more consistent background "white noise" than the ZD8000 which comes on every 2-3 minutes with an annoying whirring sound that I find very disruptive. Still, I'm not sure the fan needs to be on so much given that it does not even turn off when the N6010 is cool to the touch and sitting idle. Oh well!
On a more positive note, after installing the latest driver updates and the Fujitsu Click Me! utility, the DVD playback on my system has improved tremendously in instant on mode (Instant MyMedia). I never realized how many freckles Jennifer Garner has until watching an episode of Alias (DVD season set) on this laptop. If nothing else, this machine is a kickass 17" DVD player with possibly the best LCD screen around and probably worth its price for that one feature alone!
The N6010 will pull double duty as our TV set in the bedroom thanks to the pretty good remote which beats the pants off the joke-of-a-remote that comes with the ZD8000 or Toshiba Qosmio. As a result, the N6010 is saving me the cost of a 20" bedroom LCD TV ($1,000) and I will also use it to archive our favorite TV shows to DVD (using Sage TV and Plextor external USB tuner, see www.sagetv.com). This is another $500 saved over a set top DVR and DVD writer. Plus with the N6010, we can watch a second TV in the family or living room when the kids (or vice versa) are watching something uninteresting on the main TV. We might otherwise be talking about another 20"+ unit for the family room or elsewhere in the house (another $1,000 or more). On top of that, did I mention the ability to watch DVD's or stream TV over Wi-Fi while relaxing in the backyard? Sharp sells a $1,500 portable 15" normal aspect LCD that has poor wireless coverage and touts this as the solution for watching TV around the house! You can do tons better for slightly more money by using a desktop connected to SageTV (with Hauppauge TV card) and sending the digital signal to the N6010 over 802.11g! I feel like one of those guys on late night TV extolling the virtues of the latest must-have gadget that peels potatoes, cleans the boat/RV, broils a whole chicken and puts the kids to sleep all for one low price of $9.95 . . . but really, this N6010 is the ginsu of computers!
Back to the screen. I have personally examined 6 (six) N6010's so far and have not come across a single dead pixel. Under most circumstances, I find 4 out of 8 to be an adequate brightness level for a normally lit room and 8 out of 8 works real well in full sunlight. Although the CrystalView screen is reflective, it works the same as flat-screen CRTs in that stray reflections are spatially minimized. At an optimal viewing distance of 6 feet, only about 30 degrees in a 180 degree field of view (less than 20%) is potentially reflected in the screen. This essentially means that most large reflective sources such as fluorescent lights or sunny windows can be dealt with by a slight realignment of the screen, which is made easier by the wide viewing angle.
Also, the brightness and contrast of the CrystalView LCD tends to drown out any disturbance since you really don't focus on reflections when the screen is putting out many multiples of lumens. Still, if you are the type to be driven nuts by a tiny smudge on a white wall or a small scratch in your car's finish, you might prefer the non-reflective and less clear but not-even-close-to-lifelike picture that anti-glare screens offer. Of course, you probably still prefer DOS over Windows and outhouses over indoor plumbing for similar reasons.
Another point I will make with the N6010 is that it has not been pimped out with all those damned AOL and other useless offers or software that clutter up your desktop and program menu and often cannot be deleted. It is like a breath of fresh air when the system boots up and that AOL logo is nowhere to be found! This to me is worth at least a couple hundred bucks.
The N6010 is not primarily a business laptop or a machine that should be taken out of the home often (although it could technically do both). But if you want an awesome 17" widescreen LCD TV connected to a powerful desktop PC, DVD/CD player, DVR and DVD writer, all in a sleek 10 pound package, you won't be disappointed in the N6010 with TV tuner. -

My problem with the Qosimo is the price, man it's really expensive and doesn't seem to add much compared to the N6.

Since I've owned and returned the Qosmio (due to poor integration), I have a basis for comparison. The Qosmio Engine sucks, DVD and TV playback work well only with a limited number of media players. Forget instant on mode on the Qosmio, it's a pipe dream. What's the point of a 17" widescreen when the manufacturer has not calibrated the laptop components to run properly in full screen mode? Also, the DVD and sound drivers are buggy. On top of that, the Media Center 2005 OS does not allow for future upgrades and let me tell you something, it is not state of the art (despite the Media Center Extenders which are pretty neat). About the only advantages to the Qosmio that I could find were built-in bluetooth (although Wi-Fi is superior on N6010, which are you going to use more???), component in/DVI out, a quieter fan and slightly better speakers.
I upgraded my N6010 to 2G memory, added a 250MB USB hard drive and an external media hub to arrive at a system MUCH superior to Qosmio in terms of speed and performance, at a lower price. Maybe outside the U.S. this is a different story.
Since the Qosmio and N6010 are relatively comparable, it should come as no surprise that someone else may view the feature bundles differently, concluding that the Qomsio is a better deal. But that's personal opinion and needs to be backed by facts relevant to the general public before anyone else should care. -
Well,
1- I m not kidding u
2- It sometimes hard to understand but I always see in forums that all people has supported what they have
3- Yes,there s a different story in Europe.Toshiba,Sony,Acer in this race with thier tv turner, screen specs, but we couldnt see Fujitsu s domination here. But of course it doesnt mean it s bad or better.
4- This s a personal choice.U can say "That one",I can say "No,That one",it doesnt mean someone kids otherone...
5- Best regards

Clearday, i don't think anyone would have made a generic statement of disgust for the Qosmio had a certain someone not come on a Fujitsu board to let everyone know that the Qosmio is the bomb. When that certain someone then acts with indignity after an offering of reasoned opinions backed with facts and experience, that certain someone has proven themselves to be beyond help.
Gee, why would anyone defend their chosen laptop when someone else states that it's not as good as some other one? Oh, it must be that on forums people support what they have! It sometimes hard to understand indeed.
If you say "that one", I want to know whether you have weighed, considered and tried the alternatives before settling on the best choice, even if it's just the best choice for you. Not all opinions are the same and the proof of this is that they sold more than one Yugo. -

Clearday,
"Toshiba Qosmio s better than 6010..." is not really an opinion. It's a statement of fact. If you had instead said "I LIKE the Qosmio better than the n6010", that would be an opinion that no one could argue against.
It seems that you're either a very reckless typist or that English is not your first language (that's not an insult; English isn't my first language either), so perhaps you meant something else.
But if, on the other hand, you meant what you said, why not try to qualify your statements? Toshiba Qosmio is better in what regard to the n6010? Price? Screen? Performance? Features? Build quality? Reliability? Support? I would have to say none of the above. Perhaps there are other factors that you've based your opinion on. But then, nobody else but you would know them.
Many people use this forum to make purchasing decisions. It would be helpful if you could provide details. But when you just say "Toshiba Qosmio s better than 6010...", that's a useless post. -
I bought a N6010 in Japan (Ilive there)
It is called here FMV-BIBLO NX90
Its great. Perfect Screen. Even runs Doom3 smoothly.
Drivers I could get from Fujitsu US.
Except the TV tuner driver.
Could someone who also got a N6010 please mail the
TV tuner driver to me?
Thanks,
regards,

1-Must we all type overall specs and reviews when bringing up a notebook? so all people have to write own reviews...
No, just some simple qualifications/reasons why you say what you say.
2-Have I said any comment "go to buy Qosmio" ? No I havent. So How would u find urself in that point?
No one buys a notebook because you or I say to. We simply read people's experience and make our own decisions.
3-As all we see, everybody understand what I say as u did.So whats more? Must I use it with gramatically?
Actually, my point was that I DON'T understand what you're saying.
4-"Qmio s better than N6010" statement comes us sometimes an opinion, sometimes a decision.Must I or u judge this statement? of Course not.
Case in point. What does that mean?
5-As a MCDBA,MCSD professional,I can use simple statement,no limit in this point.All free...
And again, ...what?
Have you ever talked to a brick wall? I have. Clearday, I have no idea why you're here but we should all have known better than to try reason.

It seems that everyone is getting a bit too emotional and we have lost the original flavor of the topic. It's obvious that there are folks here that love their Fujitsus (it is a Fujitsu forum) and there are a few who prefer something else. It's also apparent that there is a problem with language translation so why don't we just leave it as it is and move on? Agreed? Thanks and regards, Ace [8D]

I agree. Lets talk about our loved ones (fujitsu notebooks). [

Hi,
To those who already own this machine and have the TV tuner, I would like feedback on the quality of the tv recordings, how easy is it to use the software to record TV shows and then transfer them to DVD..For example, maybe 5 episodes of "24" you want to copy to DVD? I will be using this as a PVR during night time and heavy duty work during the day. would like to do video editing. What format are the tv recorded shows?
Thank you.[?] -
@stimp1000, what do u talk about?
@Clearday,man I agree with you, thanks for your kindly, mentally posts...I see that you ve posted an opposite ideas about Fujitsu, and so you have taken some unfair comments feedback...Sorry for all "discrimination" talks,we are very much glad to meet you here,of course this forum is so friendly as you wish,be free and take care man.And I again thanks for your "gpu" cards work.I have taken so much and choosed best in market.Nvidia 6600gt (middle-top class winner) and I ve noticed that Bill Gates-Microsoft has come to Turkey for "1 million notebook meeting to Turkish teachers",it is so nice to see a muslim democratic country what makes best.As a christian I congr. all.I have meet with lots of Turkish and so much appreciated.Be care, and thanks. -
i'm having a hard time picking between the fujitsu n6010 and the hp zd8000. how does the zd8000's screen stand up to the fujitsu's? which laptop would be better for 3D gaming? does the fujitsu offer double-sided DVD burning? sorry for all the questions. by the way, the qosmio isn't that amazing - i was surprised by its high price tag.
-
wow... i didn't realize that my topic brought up so much controversy... clearday, obviously your in the wrong forum.. if you want to promote your lovely qosmio or whatever, do it in a forum where ppl dont like n6010. This is a forum which i made for ppl who want to know more about fujitsu n6010, and my reviews are my opinions, no one here is a professional laptop analyzer, therefore i do appreciate your input, but it does not change my belief that i truly love my n6010. in other words, make your own... [
]
And for the tv tuner, i left it out, since alot of ppl were complaining about the quality etc.. therefore i saved around 200$ without getting the crappy tv tuner.
and for gaming, my friend and i compared his zd800 with n6010 by using the ffxi benchmark program which can be found at their website. the program analyzes the speed of each graphics processor and we were off by a difference of 300, which is not significantly impairing. his comp was more expensive than mine, but we almost have the same results for graphic analysis.
and for those who have the n6010 or ordered the laptop, i congratulate you for making the decision, and yes, you should be excited! -
well said vi3ro, and I am excited....mine should be here tomorrow[

For those of you who already have the N6010, how do you like the screen size? Do you mind not having the wide screen (15'4")? The only two things that are keeping me from purchasing this laptop, at this point, are the fact that it doesn't have a widescreen and that I can't find a dealer that has one that I can try. Otherwise, it sounds like a terrific machine!
-
Yep. N6010 is widescreen. My N5010 -the previous DTR fujitsu- is NOT widescreen.
-
actually the 17" screen in the fujitsu n6010 (and most other laptops) are widescreens.

For the last time, I, too, am a 'foreigner' as I am neither a native English speaker nor am I white. My criticism of Clearday was not the presentation of his message, it was the content... or lack thereof. (RealBelief, please show me in any of my posts anything that is discriminatory.)
Ironically, in pointing all of this out I see that I've gone off on a wild tangent myself and have dragged many with me. Sorry. Okay, to get back on topic, if you come to a Fujitsu discussion group and are making posts in a thread called "FUJITSU N6010!"... please have a point... preferrably about the Fujitsu n6010.
Besides that, my only other 'point' here will be to hopefully help people who are considering the n6010, but have not or cannot see it in person before buying.
Obviously, anyone can check out the specs for themselves. The most important thing about buying a notebook unseen to me is 'build quality' and the screen. Of course, these two things can be very subjective, but when you consistently have everyone saying the same thing, then that should indicate something to you.
I've never seen the zd8000, but a friend of mine has the zd7000 and I am ASSUMING that they will be very similar aside from the video. IF that assumption is correct, then I can say that while the build quality of the zd7000/8000 is above average (especially for an HP), I still give the definite edge to the n6010. Both the zd7000 and 8000 can be configured with WSXGA+ (1680x1050) which is something that I thought I wanted, but in reality it's just too high a resolution for me, even on a 17" screen. It really depends on whether or not your eyes can take it. If you compare the Brightview on the HP to the CrystalView on the n6010 side by side (which I have done), there is no doubt that the n6010 is slightly brighter with better colours and less reflections. The difference isn't big, but it is big enough to be noticeable.
As for the Qosmio, I love the design but I just don't see anything to justify the price difference. The screen quality is quite similar. The video performance is quite similar. The only major difference I can see (besides the two hard drive capacity which I find very cool but still not worth the money) is the processor. Why put a Pentium-M into a DTR? At least on the Dell 9200, they're getting very good battery life. But the Qosmio has a battery life rated at 1-1.67 hours. That's worse than the P4 equipped n6010. And while I'm sure that a 1.8GHz P-M can do MS Office as fast as a 3.2GHz P4, when it comes to hardcore computing power (video encoding, 3D rendering, etc), it's just not as fast. Why would I buy a 10lbs DTR for light, general computing?
(This is where people who own the Qosmio, like Clearday, can come in and tell us why they bought it... not just that it's better.) -
THANKYOU STIMP1000! u have made a good point.. and lets not put the racial or language differences as a point... it doesnt matter.. i personally don't really care, if you like the review that i gave, good, if you don't, who cares! but don't bother investing your time in such a topic just to criticize it.. once again, get your own topic [

and yes... CRYSTAL VIEW ROCKS!![

At first, I didn't really want a widescreen, but after doing more reserach and finding out that most new laptops being released are wide-screens, I knew that I better get a widescreen or else my computer would be so out of date in no time. At first, I couldn't really get used to the widescreen, but now I like it.
The only downside for me right now is that sometimes when I work on my homepage, it will look fine on my widescreen, but if I were to view it on a normal screen, it would be a bit distorted. -
