    Hi,

I've got a problem with my Lifebook E8020D: After 30 min to 1 hour (depending on the room temperature) the fan turns on and won't turn off anymore (or only after a veeeery long time). Shortly after the fan has turned on, the air coming out of the laptop becomes cold, which tells me the laptop isn't really hot any longer and wouldn't require any more cooling. The bottom is only handwarm, too. But the fan still won't turn off. The only solution to get the fan to turn off is switching off the laptop and waiting for a while.

I suppose there must be somthing wrong with the temperature set for the fan to turn off again (BIOS version 1.10).

Has anyone else experienced this with the Lifebook E8020D or any other Lifebook? Is this normal? Can I fix this somehow myself? (I already tried Notebook Hardware Control, RMClock, and setting the energy managment options for maximum power saving.)

What are the reported temperatures of the CPU (thru NHC or mobile meter)?

I am wondering if something is wrong with the CPU/Heatsink interface! It's obvious your heatsink is not heated up, but that doesn't mean the CPU isn't.

Unfortunately, this Lifebook does not allow CPU temperature readouts by any tools (I tested quite a few). The only temperature that can be read out by Windows software tools is the HDD temperature.

I suppose this problem might have something to do with the heating up of certain laptop components other than the CPU because I noticed that in the beginning the fan regulation works. For example, when I start up the laptop and play a DVD or run some other CPU stressing applications right away, the fan turns on after a short while BUT it also turns off again when I stop running those applications. At that point of time, the other laptop components have not heated up yet, which is why the regulation still works (at least this is my assumption).

I read somewhere that the Fujitsu Lifebooks do not only monitor the CPU temperature but also other components/areas within the notebook. When these components heat up a little the fan turns on too, and maybe the fan temperature setting for these components is too low so that it won't stop anymore (until I completely shut down the laptop). Therefore, I thought it might be a BIOS problem. However, if other owners of the E8020D do not have this problem, it must be something else.
