What OS are you running? Have you performed a scan for virus/spyware?

When this situation occurs, are you running on battery are plugged into the wall outlet?

I am running windows media center edition. the reboot happens whether i'm on power or on battery.
I'm getting clues that it may be a video card problem. today it reboots every time i play a photo story file. I am running a radeon 1400 v card that came with the laptop. heard of any conflicts or problems??

are you using stock video drivers? i had this problem on my desktop when i had omegas....you might want to try taking a look at your eventviewer to see if there are any reports (control panel, admintools, eventviewer..)

I had this problem once with some bad RAM. Get a live linux or windows CD and runt memtest86 for a few hours to check the RAM.

You really need to give us more information. What is random booting? Do you get a Black Screen of Death?

If you get a BSOD, it could be a driver issue. I also had BSOD's with my X700, but that was because I had installed Omega drivers instead of official ATI drivers. You might want to format your notebook. I needed to format mine 3 times before it finally worked. No more Omega drivers for me...

If you are running XP, check the F&S site for any hotfixes about this problem.

    Good luck.
