First impression of my new Fujitsu N6010. The screen is as everyone has stated, bright and clear. The fan is on most of the time but I don't find it too loud. If your sensitive to fan noise it would be a constant annoyance. But I think any laptop with this much hardware and power consumption is going to need a lot of fan activity. So far, my major complaint is with the placement of the mouse buttons. I'm constantly clicking the left mouse with the heel of my hand as I type. There! it just happened again. I consider it a major flaw, but I may learn to compensate with practice. I'm hoping I can disable the touch screen and mouse buttons and use an external mouse. I don't yet know if this is possible. The rest of the key board is as good or probably better than I've seen on any other laptop. The ten key board is great, what a nice addition and one of the deciding factors for me when choosing the N6010. I havn't played any games yet and though there has been much talk of this laptop being as good as a desktop I would think that would well depend on the desktop your comparing it to. Let's not get too carried away with overstatement or we'll be looking like nothing more than paid Fujitsu salesmen. I'll continue to post as I become more familiar with my new machine. Thank you.

I also experienced this issue with the touchpad. You can toggle off/on the integrated touchpad and mouse buttons by pressing Fn + F4, while using your laptop. Or configure the Touch Pad application to disable the touchpad when a USB mouse is in use.

Hey, Thanks for that information. I hadn't looked into it yet and was afraid it wouldn't be an option. I rarely use the integrated mouse on a laptop, optiing instead for my trusty track ball. But this laptop doesn't have a PS2 port so now I'm looking for a USB trackball. Disabling the touch pad and mouse buttons is going to considerably raise my opinion of the N6010.

Congrats on your new N6010! i haven't had the touchpad issue, but must hold my hands differently. Glad there's a fix for you though. Think as you continue to live with her you'll really love her.....I know I do[

Guys I am trying to decide between the N3510 and N6010. I love the screen size on the N6, but here are my concerns, can you confirm or deny:
1- Does the bottom get really hot. Uncomfortable to have it on your lap while working?
2- Does the fact that the fans are on the bottom make it impossible to have the laptop in your lap without blocking these vents?
3- Is 10 lb just too much weight to have on your laps while working?
My major concern is that when I feel like sitting in my couch or on my balcony and working, I can do so with my laptop on my lap.
My current 2 year old laptop, is just above 7lb, but sometimes in warm weather gets annoyingly hot, but usually I have no problem using it on my lap as I am doing now. -
The botton does not get overly hot, but I really do not use it on my lap, as the cooling fans are on the bottom and you would block them on your lap. 10 Pounds would get uncomfortable after a while I think yes.

Whether it gets too hot for your lap will depend on what you call work
My N5010 gets up to 75C when I am running finite element models. I don't do that on my lap. As I sit here typing with it on my lap it's about 60C for cpu and 42C for HDD. Mostly idle. I can use it on my lap because the vents and bottom mounted fan are all on the sides. There is a solid partition down the middle that I use to rest on my leg, leaving the vents exposed. I always do this wearing pants. Wouldn't try it wearing shorts. Maybe the N6010 has a similar area without vents?

I've never put a laptop on my lap, always had it on the table. As far as the heat, I live in Alaska and it's never been an issue. Infact there's been times in camp when I've worked on my computer wearing gloves. There is one fan port in the middle of the bottom which would blow air between your legs, but the other port on the bottom is on the left side and would be blocked by you left leg. This may cause a cooling issue with your machine. I think your leg would let you know if you computer was getting too hot. Fry's tried to sell me a fan cooled slab that the computer would sit on. You could put this between your lap and the coputer but it looks like a poor solution to me. It would not only add more weight but another $30 in cost. If you do a lot of data entry on your laptop, I don't think you'll find a beter keyboard. I havn't done anything with my machine yet that would challenge it's performance, I'm going to have to get some kind of game to see how it works under pressure.

Good review on the N6010 and I am just waiting for my tax refund to get this.
Any suggestions on extended warranty, including the screen...I see Portableone has a 3-year for $100, but does this include the screen..
Any advise out there...I just don't want to have to shellout money for repairs since this laptop shold last me for 5 years. Tried asking at Fry's and they have $399 or $499 for 5 years and they have loaners (that is what they claim)..
Thanks. -
There is a very extensive and informative discusion on the merits of extended warrenties if you go to; All Forums - Hardware - Extended Warranties. And read what Bootleg2 has to say. I would highly recommend anyone who is planning to buy any new electronic device to check out this thread.
