    Hi,

I just saw the S6231 at Fry's last night, and subsequently found this website. Fry's is selling the base model for $1450, with $300 for a five year, what appears to be all-encompassing, warantee.

Then, I saw how folks on this sight RAVE about P1, and they are offering a three year warantee for free (or for $100 on the S7010).

What do you recommend -- the Fujitsu International three-year warantee through P1 or the Fry's five-year for $300. Is it inevitable that in 4.5 years I'll be dishing out another 1500 for a new computer anyway?

I had my Del laptop for 3.5 years, and it's busted. Seems like laptops make it just over three years in general.

    Thanks for your feedback!

3-years is a reasonable estimate on the amount of time it'll take before either your laptop 1) becomes obsolete and too slow in your mind or 2) starts to experience too many problems due to old age or an expensive part goes awry.

So a 5-year warranty is kind of silly and it's always best to go with a manufacturer warranty. Good choice on a great notebook there btw!

Defiantly go with the manufacturer warranty. Two weeks ago I saw a lady trying to get fry's to fix her laptop under their warranty and it looked like she was going to rip some heads off. When I left she was screaming at them. Fry's is known for their horrid customer service, I wouldn't give too much credit to any employee of fry's, including the computer repair people.

A good rule of thumb is to never, never, never buy an extended warranty from a retail store. The profit margin is so great on extended warrantys that for stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, & Fry's it makes the difference between operating at a loss and operating at a profit. They make so little money on their electronics that they rely on they're extended warranties to stay in business. If you want an extended warranty buy it from the manufacturer.
