So I am traveling to Italy on Wed. and was wondering what I need to do as far as the power conversions (currents) there it is 220, and here it is 110. A person in Radio Shack said that laptops automatically convert, while someone in Circuit City said that I need a certain adapter. I'm confused! Thanks.

Usually all laptop adapters are universal ie 110-220v and 50-60Hz. You can make sure yourself by checking the power input rating on the adapter.
IMO Your only problem would be the plug. In the US we use the 2 flat + cylindrical grnd plug, while in Italy they use the european standard of 2 cylindrical plug. So your best bet is just go to radio shack and ask for an american-european plug converter. When I was in Milan a couple of years ago, I had no prob, since the hotel I was in was equiped, but better be ready before you get there [ :)].

    Enjoy your trip!

And watch your wallet/handbag. Pope is so keen on reminding us to take it easy in iraq yet he says nothing about the bands of gypsies in italy which will pick-pocket you on the way to the vatican.
