Guys, I need help...which one better for normal usage? A has 1.73G with 40GHD which B has 1.86G with 60GHD plus a DVD burner? Is 6230A good enough...cuz B costs a bit more and do I really need a DVD burner on my notebook?

DVD burners are nice for backup even if you are not burning movies as they hold much more data. If you aren't burning movies and modest backup needs, a CDRW/DVD combo drive will do fine. The difference in the CPUs is marginal. Spend the extra cash on a faster hard drive as you'll get more bang there.

So..what about 1.73G or 1.86G, is it worth the $$$ to upgrade it to 1.86G?

If you're completely uninterested in the DVD drive then the extra .13 GHz is not worth the extra ~$200.

Well, I dont mind to have it...just not sure if I need it..you never know...for extra $$$ I got 1.86G, DVD burner and 60GHD as opposed to 40GHD...so hard to decide...BTW, zazonz suggests me to get a faster hard drive (for the 1.86G, i think I'll get the 54000RPM?), should I upgrade it to 7200RPM and will it void the warranty?

For longer battery life, I actually prefer the slower drive.

Battery life difference is very small. It is unlikely you'd notice a differnce in the CPUs unless you are really pushing it. You can upgrade the hard drive, but Fujitsu is picky about user upgrades. I would recommend holding onto the old one in case you have to send it in for repair. You can put in an external case for extra storage.

I didn't think I'd use DVD burner when I got my 6231. Now one year later, I can't imagine I though of not doing it! I use it a lot, not only for burning DVD's but just backups of data, copying files to give ot other people or use elsewhere.

One DVD can take as much data as 6 CD's. SO the day you find yourself burning 3-4-5 CD's you would realize that DVD burner is better.

Also in the long run, if you want to get rid of you laptop and get a new one, you will get much less out of a totally outdated one that cant burn DVD - before long that will be the expectation.

In a way any technology is already getting obsolete the day you buy it, but the worst you could do is to buy something that was obsolete even BEFORE you bought it.

I suggest taking the one with DVD writer .. can come in handy when needed. but about processor speed .. I think there is not much of a different. since is 0.1 gig faster ... unless is 1.1 gig faster then makes alot of different.
