Just recently, I purchased a Lifebook A3040. I replaced the hard drive with a MHV2120AH, Fujitsu' 5400rpm 120GB hard drive. The first one I had lasted a total of about a week. I returned the drive for a new one. While that drive was being exchanged, I used an older 5400rpm hard drive made my Hitachi. That drive ran around 40C. This one goes up to around 42c and, when I was doing the error scan with HD Tune, ran up to around 47c. I know that the specifications show it can get up to 55c, but it seems a bit odd that it would run that much hotter. I have also noticed that, at times, the keyboard and wristrest right above the hard drive get quite warm. I have not read any reviews or anything on this laptop, so I just want to make sure that this all would be considered normal.
