I bought a Fujitsu S7010 not too long ago and I love the machine, however I must admit that the screen is most disappointing. From everything I have read, a lot of people compare the Fujitsu glare type screen to the Sony XBrite screen and some people even say the Fujitsu is better. I must say that the Sony screen is much much better. The screen is much brighter and the colors are much more vivid and it has a MUCH better viewing angle (horizontal and vertical). In addition the Sony's have better resolution and text looks much much better. I'm not trying to bash the Fujitsu as I love everything else about it. I guess, by posting this thread, I am wondering what other people think of the glare type screens and am I nuts or just being too hard on the Fujitsu?

I am considering selling my mint condition S7010 for the 13" Sony. Thoughts?

hmm, that's odd, I found the Fujitsu screen superior IMHO -- but that was on an S6231. The VAIO S you allude to (13.3") has problems with uneven backlighting

We have three detailed reviews on this site for the vaio s, click on the "Reviews" tab at the top and use the filters to find the 3 that exist, we'll have another review for this model soon too.

have you compared it side by side with another identical model ... maybe you have a defective screen.

I find Fujitsu's screens too bright. I actually use mine at 5/8 brightness. But I never saw an S series with CV screens, I have only seen the older none CV models, so I wouldn't know if what you're describing is normal!

I'm using the S7011, and it's w/ the CV, my cousin has S6231, and looks exactly the same.

As for sony, i think in terms of brightness, almost the same, if not better (fujitsu).

one drawback is the resolution... sony offers widescreen and better resolution.

I have begun to question the quality of my screen as well, as I installed http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18883409/ as my current wallpaper.

I was surfing for wallpapers on my desktop (bigger screen so could analyze images faster) and had decided that this monkey with the weird pale, greenish background would do well as wallpaper.

As I look it up in my laptop, I become appalled at the difference in image quality when comparing my monitor with my laptop screen. Instead of getting a weird pale, greenish main background, I got white; is this normal? Are people seeing the same distorted colors I am getting when using your laptop while comparing it with your desktop crt/lcd?

I just attributed the alteration in color due to the "weaker" graphics card that the laptop contains; am I making a wrong assumption with this?

I have a 16" sxga+ CV screen, and it's beautiful- hardly ever go past 4/8 on brightness, and colors are easily better than any monitor I have used. Maybe I just have crummy monitors though...

I bought my S6231 w/ cv screen at Fry's. They carry just about every computer in the universe, includind the Sony "xbrite" varients. Fujitsu's CV screen won hands down. It has much less glare than the xbrite, and can be viewed outdoors. I have an older Sony Viao as well (before xbrite). There is also no comparison in the build quality between the my Fujitsu and the Viao.
When the computer administrator in our office laid eyes on my new S6231, the first words out of his mouth were "tht the best screen I've ever seen."

Gee, everyone else seems to think the colors and viewing angles are pretty good. Maybe you have a bum screen? Failing that, return it for a laptop you like. Enjoying the screen is one of the key aspects in my book. Good luck getting a screen that suits you [ :)]

i've had s6231 for 6 month and I haven't seen better screens, recently I got 9300 and it has a crappy screen, I think I'll keep my s6231 until I see better screens from Dell
