Received Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1705 which powers up but displays no picture. Are there any typical problems that exist with this laptop line-up that I should check or suspect?

Okay, the machine appears to power up with battery, tried shutting down and powering up several times succesfully.

    - I tried reseting settings, with my old Fujitsu laptop pressing power button 10 seconds without no power sources (cord or battery) resets settings, don't know if it applies with this model.
    - Changed bios battery
    - unplugged wireless card

After I put the wireless card back and tried booting with just battery it worked so atleast this machine not completedly junk, have to test more. For some reason previous owner has removed processor fan so naturally I shoud not keep the machine powered up too long.

EDIT: The machine boots also with only power cord plugged so atleast power part seems to be working.

This still applies to all FTS laptops.

Sounds like a broken battery charge control. I know some reports of other FTS laptops with this problem. I'd have to look it up if the Li 1705 seems to be prone to that.

I suspect the motherboard. The machine does start after couple attempts and after it has once started, I usually can power it off and restart succesfully several times. I was able to install Windows XP without any problems. However sometimes it boots to Windows but hangs if I switch wireless on and off (just wanted to test). Sometimes it beeps one long beep. It works without problems most of the time when it boots to Windows, I have surfed internet etc. It seems (atleast for now) that if the machine does not boot with picture, it helps if I put some pressure in the area where hard disk / CD-drive are and try again.

The problems that I am having is not uncommon with this model, but it seemms that mine is not as bad as some users have.

Update to this issue, I did create two "pads" from paper and put them between the upper case and motherboard in order to create pressure when screws are tightened. Those black rectangles indicate where the pads are located:

I noticed that before this "fix" the right mouse button would not make the same kind of clicking sound as the left but after putting a pad near the touchpad those buttons work same way. So far the machine has started every time (10/10 attempts) but I have to test further as the machine appears to have issues usually when it is cold.

By the way, is it true that this model has only one speaker? There is place for second as you can see but I didn't spot second speaker connector anywhere?

And sorry about my english, it is not my native language :)

I don't know. I've never seen an Li 1705 in real life. I think I could find that out for you, but it might take a week or so.
I have an Si 1520 which is significantly smaller but has two internal speakers. So I'd guess that bigger models have two speakers too. But on the other hand the L/Li/La series is the lowest budget line of FTS. Maybe they even save money by omitting one speaker.

The same goes for me. ;)

Laptop now boots every time with picture but it is very sensitive to moving, if you tilt it to left or right it will freeze in most cases. I will probably sell it for parts, I guess the only way to fix it would be to change the motherboard or resolder something..
