Help ! My laptop dies out. There is no warning just nothing.
If I disconnect the battery and the ac adapter I can get a
re-start for a few minutes before it blanks out again.
The ac adapter is warm and the bottom centre of the laptop
is warm. The fan can be heard running and not running.
Has anyone heard of similar problems ?

Also, regarding the selection of an external hard drive...
I read that 5400 rpm with firewire is recommended.
    Any suggestions ?

Sounds like you have a severe problem if it fails on AC and on battery, you need to send it for repair.

As to an external drive, firewire is fine, I use USB 2.0, it's up to you and what your machine can support.
