Agree or Disagree.
My personal experiences so far with Laptop Speakers:
Fujitsu > Dell >>>>>>>>>>> Sony/Toshiba/HP/Lenovo > Acer/Asus
-
I'm not that familiar with most of the Fujitsu laptops yet, but from what I've heard, the new U904 has terrible speakers. It's one of the things keeping me from getting one besides the pretty flat keyboard.
I think Samsung has some excellent ones in their Series 9 / ATIV 9 compared to similar competitors.
I had the new X1 Carbon (Haswell) for a little, and they were good, but didn't compare to the Samsung despite being in a bigger frame. -
The U904 is an ultrabook with ultrabook-sized speakers. Obviously, such a reduction in hardware size will result in reduced performance.
This thread is mainly about the regular (non-ultrabook) laptop speakers. In as far as this goes, not counting Panasonic, Fujitsu has the best in the entire industry. Next to Dell, nothing comes close. It's like Fujist has 1st place, Dell 3rd place, and the next nearing placing is 13th place.... That was how aweful my experience with laptop speakers was when it came to the other brands... -
I don't know how many fujitsu laptops you have seen - most of them have speakers which are terrible or at most ok.
I think there are 1 or 2 consumer models with good speakers, the rest ist just embarrassing. -
That's not true. Well, maybe this thread should be about the $900+ business models. Are you familiar with Donkey Kong Country 2 by any chance? My Fujitsu speakers is where the only semblance of actual bass comes out when playing "Hothead bop" DKC2 music. My Dell comes close though...

What model do you have? I've seen many business models at work, and they are all sub par compared to Samsung, for example. Or the old Sony my wife is using.
If you open a Lifebook, you will see a simple, cheap speaker. If you open a Samsung, Asus or even a Lenovo, you will see a complete speaker unit with a little resonance body around it.
I own an old Lifebook, it sounds awful. I use a new Lifebook at work, it sounds okay. But those are business units for users who do not care about audio quality.
The U904 seems to sound horrible if you believe the reviews - I've listened to Samsung and Asus Ultrabooks which sound much better and have much more bass than my full size 15 inch Lifebook.
Fujitsu builds very, very good quality machines, but the speakers are just crap... just enough for Skype.
So I was really surprised to see this thread... Maybe you were really lucky with the model you own. -
No doubt Fujitsu ultrabook speakers are crap. Ubooks are a relatively new phenomenon, so it may take years before Fujitsu manages good speakers in them... Anyways, I am somewhat of an audiophile. I prefer to plug in external speakers to hear music. But, surprisingly my Fujitsu regular laptop outputs close to hi-def ext. speaker quality sound. This is the E752 btw, which was relatively inexpensive at $900USD when I bought it...
Now, I am curious. What is the model of your 15 in. Lifebook?
(Btw, Fujitsu seems to be a two-faced company that outputs products that vary in quality from night to day. I would avoid any Fujitsu product not made in Japan for this reason.) -
It's no different than let's say a business class Dell (e.g. Precision line) vs a consumer class Dell (e.g. Inspiron line).
Consumer class = cheap junk (mostly)
Business class = Premium machine -
I have an E751 at work which is OK, but Samsung and Asus Ultrabooks seem better. My other one is an old E8020 which is really bad...
Maybe they built better speakers in the E752...
