    Hi.

I cannot choose between a Dell 600M and the Fujitsu S6120, and I wanted some advice from people who have used both or know a lot of both. I am a fourth-year college student in Economics, and I need a light laptop - around 4 lbs - to use around campus. The programs I will run are the everyday programs: office, IE, aim, etc. Also, I will need to run Matlab, R, and Mathematica (math and stat programs).

Initially I was in search of any non-celeron notebook that could potentially weight up to 9 lbs. Now, I am willing to spend a few hundred dollars more to cut the weight down to four or five pounds.

So to my point: I am trying to decide between the dell and fujitsu. I know Dell outsourced some of their customer service jobs to India so customer service is not what it used to be. Quality is decent, and the laptops are decently priced. The fujitsu is really high quality and looks really nice but with similar configurations I want, the fujitsu and dell are $1500 and $1350 shipped/taxed respectively.

Which one should I get? Is the extra $150 worth the looks/quality? This is assuming that I will not switch laptops for at least a year or two.

    Thanks in advance!

There is zero doubt in my mind that you go with the Fujitsu and never look back. Have you checkout out www.laptopsinc.com yet? That's the best place to buy Fujitsu.

Anyway, aside from poor service, the 600M is actually one of my favorite Dell units, but the lack on a built in optical drive really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Lastly, you might want to look also at the S7000. It's got a little larger screen in the same footprint as the S6000.

I have to say never get the dell. They are cheap!
Very cheap cases with slow hard drives and crappy RAM.

Not to mention a dell is overpriced.

I would go with the fujitsu if you have to get one of these 2.

If you have not checked out the toshiba tecra m2 then you should definately go look. It beats both dell and fujitsu on performance, features, quality, and especially warranty(3 year standard with battery covered for 1st year!!).

Complaint about the fujitsu: integrated graphics
Toshiba: Geforcego 5200 64mb dedicated graphics for same money as fujitsu.

    thanks for the quick replies!

I have decided which laptop I will get: the fujitsu S6120. This was purchased through www.laptopsinc.com - hopefully they are as fast and reliable as people have said. Total is around $1514 after tax shipped.

They haven't updated my status yet (I ordered on saturday). Hopefully they will update my status on monday, and I will get the laptop within a week. [ :D] How long does it take to process the order and ship it?

Thanks for all the help. I will review the laptop when I get it.

Shipping varries...can be within a week or a couple depending on stock. I'd call Monday and ask for Ivan. They don't update the website very often.
