I am looking at the Fujitsu S6210 notebook. (Did it just come out recently?) I like everything about it except the graphics card. It is an Intel 855GM chipset with 64mb shared. I do not play games very much, but I would like to be able to once in a while if I want to.

    Here is the configuration:
    - Intel (Centrino) 1.6GHz -M
    - 512MB (2x256MB) 2GB Max (333mhz)
    - 40GB *(5400RPM) Hard Drive
    - 13.3" CV (Crystal View) XGA TFT Display

    1) If I had 1gig of ram would it help graphics performance?

    2) Would I be able to play games like Unreal Tournament 2004. I do not care if its not state of the art quality, just so that it is playable.

    3) How would the game performance of this compare to my current desktop: 1.6ghz P4, 512mb ram, 32mb geforce tnt card (HP Pavilion 750n)?

    4) Also, how would you rank the following graphics options: 32mb dedicated, 64 shared, 128 shared.

    5) Does a shared graphics card affect performance in any other aspects besides gaming?

    5) I have been looking for information on the S6210, but have not found much. Does it have an eraser head pointer? Are there any reviews out there? Anyone have one? Any other comments?

    1) Not really, though it would be nice to have
    2) I can play UT2004 on my P5020 on low settings (PM 1.0, 1GB RAM)
    3) The settings used for graphics will be much lower
    4) 32MB dedicated and shared are nearly identical
    5) Nope, just working with large graphics files and games
    6) We have a review, use the search on teh home page

Thanks for the prompt and helpful replies.
I still have a few more questions.

    1) On Notebookreview's review it says:
504MB DDR SDRAM 266MHz; Intel 82852/82855 Graphics Controller 64MB (8MB shared). Does this mean that 56mb is not shared (64mb - 8mb shared)?

    2) Is there any reason not to get this notebook? (Considering I do not need top of the line graphics)

    3) On laptopsinc.com it says: "With free Inspice Trace & Recovery Service for 3 Years!" Is this really a big deal?

    4) I know how everyone is asking about when 64bit will take over, but my question is will this configuration last me at least four years:

    - Intel (Centrino) 1.6GHz -M
    - 512MB (2x256MB) 2GB Max (Will eventually upgrade to 1gig)
    - 40GB *(5400RPM) Hard Drive
    - 13.3" CV (Crystal View) XGA TFT Display
    - Combo DVD & CDRW Drive
    - USB 2.0
    - 56K V.90 Global Modem
    - 10/100mbps LAN
    - Intel PRO/wireless 2200BG (Wi-Fi Certified 802.11b/g)
    - Hot-swap Ultra Bay

    5) Do you think the price will drop within the next couple of months due to the Pentium M Dothan release?

    6) I did read about XP Pro Vs XP Home, but I just wonder if I have to/need to have XP Pro to connect to a college campus wireless network?

    7) Do you think that Circuit City, Best Buy, etc, would carry this product?

    Thanks in advance!

The 6120 is really nice, but sit tight, they're going to release a refresh of the entire S line of products. I think the updates might be worthwhile...especially for the S7000 series, which is another you should be looking at.

    Thanks for the help.

Does anyone have answers to my other questions listed above?

    Thanks!

    1) No, 64MB is shared, not sure exactly what that spec is all about
    2) Not unless you want to wait for Dothan or go with the S7000
    3) No
    4) The computer will still work in four years and will likely be able to run the latest OS and office tools. Of course gaming won't be happening too much toward the end of its life.
    5) Yes, but not severely.
    6) No, Home connects to wireless networks.
    7) No, Frys is the only retailer who carries it.

some are confused here the S6210 is the update of the S6120 (check numbers closely) Biggest difference is the crystalview screen and the keyboard layout is different more like the S7000. Slightly faster processor and a 5400 rpm hd.

Frys carried the S6120 and I guess they will get the S6210 eventually. The 13.3 screen at 1024x768 is not so bad but noticeably smaller that what you see on a desktop.

You said "TV Video port optio (cord included in box)"

what exactly does that mean and what is it good for?

I think it is component video or s-video. Another "great" feature that nobody will ever use.

Well, I think you'll use TV port to watch some DVDs in a big screen TV, for example,

    Cheers!
