Hey guys,
I'm totally new here but love reading the reviews from the site. I've been having trouble for about 2 days now with my Fujitsu, and today was the final straw... any advice would be greatly appreciated.
2 days ago after I got home, I tried to turn on my Fujitsu but after it powered on, the screen was still black (usually shows a Fujitsu logo + F1 setup options). I noticed on the display panel that the harddrive was not reading either. The next day, it worked fine... except during use, it again blacked out on me. I powered it off, and then waited and it worked fine again. I figured the motherboard was having some trouble, but that it wasn't totally dead.
However, today while I was working (booted fine on first try), the computer COMPLETELY shut off on me. The screen didn't just go black and the computer "stall," like it usually did, this time it powered off. The display panel didn't show that it was plugged in, or that the battery was present. Since then, I have been unable to power it back up...
I have opened the machine and separated all the parts. I'm decent with computers, but I wanted to check if the motherboard was fried. From what I can tell, there is no obvious damage at all, except that the Intel 915GM chipset is a little discolored (probably from use). Everything seems to be perfectly int act, althuogh when it shut off earlier today, I did smell sort of a nasty burning smell........
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks,
Justin

*** UPDATE ****
I read on another site that I could test to see where the problem was coming from my plugging it in and seeing what is hot. I literally plugged in the mainboard (it's outside of the computer) for 30 seconds, and it started to smell like burning again.
When I moved my hand around the top of the mainboard, the power chips were extremely hot. The little things with copper coils were as if they were on fire. The GPU chip was also a little warm, but that's it. Also, the area where the AC cord plugs in was very hot. I unplugged it shortly because I felt like I was going to blow/fry something.
I wonder if I just have one or two bad IC's on here...
