Just received my S7010D from newegg.com 1.7mhz, 500mb and 60gb = $1669 delivered
2 dead pixels one near the center that bugs me and another very low I didn't even notice at first. From what I have read the Fujitsu policy is 3 dead so I guess I am stuck?
The buttons on the mouse pad are a little firm to the touch and I am not sure I like the curved shape or the metal feel for that matter. Also missing is a volume control so I guess I'll have to get some head phones with it inline.
The good part is the system is plenty fast and responsive even playing dvd on battery power there are not concerns. I will be doing a fresh XP-Pro install later tonight and will report how that goes.

hey Packrat, thanks for this first take and I look forward to hearing more. Especially what your thoughts are on the keyboard and the overall "feel". And while first takes are always great, please stick around the forums to inform others on the Fujitsu S7000 because the true test and opinion of a notebook is developed over time. I've found that due to the fact the IBM T40 I use is just right for throwing into a notebook case and taking it to a coffee shop or library I can use it for just about everything from being a mobile PIM to a very good software development machine -- in other words, if you like something and use it enough it will grow on you over time even [

Hey there everyone,
I am buying a notebook as soon as I figure out what to buy, and have been leaning toward the Fugitsu 7010. I love it's compact yet not too tiny size and I think it's aesthetically beautiful Here's the thing. This will be a "desktop" replacement. I teach "online" for a university--this means making simple webpages (although eventually I might like to add some video--maybe a "welcome" video starring yours truly.) I am ALWAYS on the internet reading "online discussions", grading etc. And I thought of getting a laptop so that I could go portable in local WiFi enabled coffee shops so I wasn't always stuck at home, plus I do like to travel so like the idea of a lightweight system. Right now I am still getting by with old Windows 98 on my four-year-old pentium III desktop. I need to stay as much under $2000 bucks as possible for my new system. Do you all think the Fugitsu would be a good choice for me? I'm a bit worried about what it's like to use a laptop for several hours at a time--I have no experience with them--what about the "heating" and "fan noise" problems I've been hearing about? I will be doing mostly typing and reading, but the internet part is ESSENTIAL. Any feedback would be appreciated( I was also thinking of the full size fugitsu with "cystal screen") -
Well, the S7000 is getting a refresh with the CV screen, so it's worth waiting. As for use as a DTR, I think you're problem is going to be in the size of the display. You might want to plug in to an external monitor when at your desk or whatnot. You could also set up a full size keyboard and mouse if you want, that's what I do.

The S7010 is the lightest 14inch laptop I could find nearly 1/2lb lighter than the nearest competitor.
Regarding fan noise I don't see how anyone can complain about laptop fan noise when compared to a desktop. The heat is another issue you can't really put them on you lap any longer. This is the most power i've had in a laptop so maybe i'll invest in one of those cute little stands with fans underneath, but all the heat is on the botttom of the S7010 top is barely warm.
Having said that I could never use a laptop for a desktop replacement. Plug in a real mouse and keyboard to begin with and add a monitor and you are set. You could buy a loaded S7110D and a keyboard, mouse and a flat 19 inch monitor for $2000 delivered from newegg.com and have the best of both worlds. -
This is so helpful! Thanks!

Regarding the dead pixels, I believe Newegg will at least exchange for the same item, you should try if the pixels are bothersome.

In the product listing newegg states:
**This item is NOT REFUNDABLE, exchange for same exact item only!!**
But when you try to submit a RMA request you get:
**Notebooks are warranted by the Manufacturer**
Doesn't quite sound the same to me but it seems you are on your own. I have heard the Fujitsu policy is 3 dead but I can't find anything from Fujitsu on that.
