Hi all.
As many of you before, I am looking for a new laptop. []
I have read dozens (or hundreds ?) of reviews and
I am getting into the final choice soon. I really like
the Fujitsu S6000 series due its blend of price and portability.
So I have a basic question regarding these models and I
hope someone could shed a light.
I noticied that fujitsu released many S6000 models. Some of
them are Banias others are Dothan based. This is decisive
for me since I am looking for a bigger cache (Dothan) and
some online seller do not put this info on their homepages.
Does anyone know what are the Dothan models released so far ?
I know about the S6231 but there must be others around.
Regarding S6231, does anyone know some report about
external monitors attached to it ? I read the manual
and it says that you may get up to 1280x1024 but
how good is it in reality ? (since it does use an integrated
video card)
I appreciate any feedback !

I used a S6210 for a bit, and i had it hooked up to an external monitor (samsung 213T 21.3" lcd). max res for external hookup is actually 1600x1200, which is what i used, and it looked just fine [
]
Actually, some of the older models (s6210, s6220) sport dothan processors (Intel Pentium 725 M 1.6GHz, Intel Pentium M 735 1.7G). Though, for the extra $, it may be worth it just to get the S6231 with improved ventilation, etc., unless, of course, you can find a great closeout price for one of the older models with the dothan. In case you're interested, you can check these out:

The S6231 was the first refresh of the S6000 series from Fujitsu that included the Dothan, so you would need to go with that model number in order to make sure you get the Dothan. The other advantage is an improved keyboard.

Thanks, Abaxter !

Thanks, MIchael.
I was looking exactly the same pages before posting the
first message. Actually, I was looking this model
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=34-110-127&depa=0
when I came across the S6210 and S6220. That's when I decided
to ask for advice here []
The info about the monitor is awesome. I intend to attach my
17' LCD on it and anything higher than 1240x1024 is a plus.
I am really having trouble choosing this laptop because
there are many interesting products on the market now.
At this point I decided to drop Sony S series from my options
because they are too pricey (with the $ difference between
the Fujitsu and Sony I can easily get a nice 10x zoom digital
camera).
Michael, why did you use this model just for a while ?
Thanks for the feedback.

oh. sorry if i caused any confusion. the only reason i used the s6210 "for a while" is because it was a coworker's computer. hahaha! but my mom has a s6210 as well, and she LOVES it.
personally, i've used the N5010, and i recently got a N6010 (TV tuner model).
honestly, for the combination of price, reliability, and quality, i don't think you can beat the S series. While some people claim that sony's x-brite is the best screen technology, i just can't agree after seeing some of the vaio's in bestbuy, circuit city, etc.
Since my N6010 isn't exactly "portable", i myself am in the process of deciding between the P7010 and the S6231...currently leaning towards the P, since it's one of the ultimate in terms of portability.
I was actually interested in the dell 700m for a bit, but after seeing it in person this past weekend, i've decided to stick with fujitsu []

Thanks...I guess I will just have to try to see both machines together...I have seen the S6210 and I liked it a lot, but reading now that the S7010 has the CV screen I am tempted to get it over the S6231 now.

michae42,
Thanks for the info on the Dell and Sony screen...I was looking at both models too [8D] which I am sure most people looking for this type of laptop are. Why are you looking at just the S6231...to me the S7010 looks like a better buy if you do not care about the .3 extra pounds. I just can not figure out why people are shying away from the S7010; and I really would like too [].
Thanks Flyboy -
hey flyboy,
for some reason, i just like the size of the 13.3" screen compared to the 14.1" for the thin-and-light category. now, if the revamped S7 series had crystal view AND the sxga resolution (as opposed to xga crystal view OR sxga non-crystal view), it would be a no-brainer for me [8D] -
Thanks for this discussion !
I am giving some days to make up with some decision.
The hardest part for most people is to realize what are
their real needs in order to minimize the impact
of the compromises that comes from portability.
At my work I use one Dell Latitude D800. Twice a month
I carry this block to my place and do some extra work (my
old but awesome HP Omnibook 6000 is not up to do some heavy
stuff). It's time to get something new for myself.
I checked the S7000 series and they look really good indeed.
The only thing that make me think twice is the price tag.
For instance, check what you can get with US$ 1330,00 (after
5% off at checkout)

I know that this model is not in the same category of the fujitsu
series but it is very appealing. Many reviewers (most gamers)
are in love with this OEM (Uniwill 258K).
Decisions, decisions. [8)]

hey randommai,
check out the "video controller" section on the s6000 color data sheet:
http://www.computers.us.fujitsu.com/www/content/products/notebooks/brochures/DS_S6000.pdf
i'm pretty sure that the "tech specs" link on the fujitsu website is wrong about the max external res.
i'm actually typing this post on my mom's S6210, and if i choose to extend my desktop on an external monitor, the max res is 1600x1200.
Sergio, have u checked out the Uniwill 259IA? it was just released recently, and it sports a 15.4" WSXGA+ resolution! I was actually looking at this particular unit before i decided on my N6010. just couldn't resist the 17" crystal view [8D] -
Hey michae42
