I am about to buy a Fujitsu N3510. The reviews are great, except
on CNET, one user says that the touchpad is an Alps and there
is now vertical scrolling and no fix.
Can somebody confirm this and if there is any work around
or third party utility which gives this function? I'm
so used to the great Synaptics on my Dell that I hate
to give it up.

you can configure the software to allow you to use the side of the pad for scrolling, just like any other laptop.
the only thing the n3510 lacks is a dedicated scroll button.

the scroll button is just an extra button for scrolling. the models that have a finger print scanner can use that for scrolling, such as the p7010 and s7010.
that's how it looks on the model I have:
as for hard drive speed. the faster drives don't consume more power, at least no significantly. It's too unnoticable to sacrifice the speed for just a few minutes of bat life. check this thread out: http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=112

I have an N3510 and it has a center scroll button, not unlike the one on the 6010. I don't like it very much, and overall the Alps touchpad isn't so great. The drivers don't support drag edge-motion or some other advanced things that Synaptics users would be accustomed to. Fortunately, Dell makes a driver for the touchpad that adds these features. Still, they are not as elegant as the Synaptics.
