Hey everyone!
I just bought a new game for my Fujitsu Lifebook T730 tablet. Whenever I try to run the game though it just comes up with an error saying it stopped working and to close the window. I looked around online for some solutions which most say I have a terrible graphics card for the game. I'll post some specs but my question is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in the laptop? I don't even know where to begin if I can or how much it would cost.
Anyway here are my specs:
Display Devices
- Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics
- Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
- Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics (Core i5)
- DAC type: Internal
- Display Memory: 1305 MB
- Dedicated Memory: 64 MB
- Shared Memory: 1241 MB
- Current Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)
- Operating System: Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7 _gdr.100618-1621)
- System Manufacturer: FUJITSU
- System Model: LIFEBOOK T730
- BIOS: Version 1.04
- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 520 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4 GHz
- Memory: 4096MB RAM
- Available OS Memory: 2996MB RAM
- DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Recommended specs for the game are:
- OS: Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit*
- CPU: Intel Core i7 2.66GHz or higher
- RAM: 4GB or more
- HDD/SDD: Installation: 15GB of free space; Download: 6GB of free space on the drive containing "My Documents"
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or better with VRAM 768MB or more
- Sound Card: DirectSound compatible sound card (DirectX 9.0c or higher)
- Internet Connection: Broadband or better (always-on)
- Resolution: 1280x720 (32-bit) or higher
- DirectX: DirectX 9.0c
- Others: Mouse, Keyboard, Gamepad
- (On a 64-bit OS, the software will run via WOW64 - Windows 32-bit On Windows 64-bit )
I have done all the optional updates for windows. I have lowered the video and display qualities for the game. Nothing has really worked yet. I'm guessing the graphics card won't work but I honestly don't know where to go to get it upgraded. Let me know if you can help, thanks guys/gals!

But the ViDock is a pretty lame solution. You've got to have an external monitor, need to plug in the GPU every time to use it, and you're tied down to one place.
Changing the internal GPU is not going to happen though so it is your only choice to improve performance (other than buying a different laptop).
As for the game crashing, you might need to reinstall the graphics drivers. What games? -

That actually sounds like a sweet alternative. Where would I buy one? I went to the NVidia site but it just gave a description. Also is it easy to attach to the laptop? I don't even know where to look to put one. If its not too hard to throw in then i'm all for it. Thanks a bunch!

Only caveat is NVidia put their watermark on it highlighting it's not a solution certified by them.
Though would need to connect to an external LCD for full performance. The idea will become more potent when attached to pci-e 3.0 equipped Sandy Bridge notebooks with up to four times more bandwidth. -
Also, were you saying the GTX 460 is $e280 or that the ViDock and the GTX 460 were $280 together? I have just read up on both items for a while and I don't think i've ever learned more about Graphics in m life. From what I see buying a ViDock can be like $200 and the GTX 460 also $200. thats a whole lot of $$$ but i'm willing, I just would like an explanation of how these things work and maybe where I could buy them. I think I read something about making one? Anyway let me know, I still have some unanswered questions above but if I remember the post correctly, i'm probably just reiterating it in a longer fashion. Alright well thanks for the input guys! Hope you can answer some of my questions. If you want my email to guide me along that can work too.
Edit: I also found a GeForce GTM 460M and the regular GeForce 460. Whats the difference and which one should I try and get? The 460 seems more accessible and actually for sale without buying a new laptop. -

Reading http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-vidock-experiences.html would answer a lot of your questions.

See my problem is the lingo. They keep throwing out all these names of chips and what not but I don't know what does what and which to get. I want the cheapest one I can get while playing my game on my laptop screen and my external monitor.
"US$280 400W GTX460-768GB DIY ViDock Performance setup
US$65-ground_shipped PE4L + US$180AR GTX460-768MB + US$30AR Corsair 400W PSU + US$0.05 paperclip = US$280."
This is the setup the first guy told me to get, but I don't know what any of these do, i'm starting to get the idea a little but the corsair thing is throwing me off. Also should I assume the GTX 460 has optimus?
Edit: Could I just use the $155 setup? Seems more mobile and cheaper and I don't really need a big boost quite yet.
"US$155 12V/72W GT430-1GB DIY ViDock Portable setup (GT430=56W TDP)
US$65-ground_shipped PE4L + US$80 GT430-1GB+ US$10 12V/72W AC adapter = US$155."
I feel like getting a PE4H would be better than a PE4L though since I can actually see where the graphics card can be connected to. With the PE4L I have no idea how that goes together and no intructions explain it eaily for me either. Sorry for the repeated questioning guys, your helping a ton though. Thanks! -

lol
you need
- The converter from laptop to desktop graphics
- the desktop graphics card
- the desktop power supply (corsair thing)
the first you can get 2 of so that might be confusing. Youd be fine with 1 expresscard version. -

For full performance hardware internal laptop LCD conversion you can use NJYtouch controller boards (for some LCDs) using DVI.

Ok so after hours of reading about these things, I've only a couple more questions. What is Optimus configuration? Like if I order a GT430 (goin cheap today) is it already Optimus or do I need more stuff? Also if I buy the PE4L do I need to use some paperclip or wire to connect something? Annnnnnd lastly, if I use the $155 configuration mentioned a few posts earlier, will I need a second monitor? Cause the posts here say no but elsewhere they talk about additional monitors. I have one but i'd also like to be able to play on the go. Thanks so much guys/gals!

Optimus configuration = notebook with 4500MHD, Intel HD or x3150 graphics + Optimus driver + NVidia Fermi graphics card like a GT430/GTS450/GTX4xx. The Optimus configuration providing accelerated performance AND can drive the internal LCD with a performance penalty but will still be miles ahead of an Intel IGP. Full performance will require connecting an external LCD.
The US$155 12V/72W GT430 setup will allow gaming on the go, but you'll get this watermark if used to drive the internal LCD. If that bothers you hassle NVidia as I have already tried to do here or jump on the http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/469747-sony-z11-nvidia-optimus-29.html#post6539272 thread to see if can get a hack solution.
The Optimus setup is not something that was ever certified by NVidia. It was a fluke that the NBR community figured out by the N team, Nautis and I, which offers a lot of performance and features for a small price. So can now get a top-notch ultraportable or tablet and just add a DIY ViDock to get performance dedicated graphics.
There were reports NVidia were making an external graphics solution which may very well be the same setup offered above with a NVidia sticker and higher price.
