    Hi,

for those looking to buy a fujitsu 13.3 inch, maybe somewhere here can provide further input on this information I obtained.

There was a mini trade show where I work (LG, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Apple were there). I spoke to the Fujitsu rep and he told me that they were going to phase out the s6000 series and just sell the s7000 series.

Now this was a Canadian Fujitsu rep so maybe it just effects Canada. Anyone one with better connections want to debunk or confirm this info.

(one a side now, saw the p7000 in person. I really like it, although the LG TX express does have a graphics card going for it.)

I find it hard to believe they would do that, in canada or worldwide. The S6000 is their most succesful, much more than the S7000.

In my opinion, if they make such a decission without having a good replacement it would be a big mistake.

Typical, money rules what stays and what goes.

I wonder what will happen to the S2000. It uses an almost identical chassis to the S6000, and the "more expensive 13.3"".

I agree that cost is an issue. I haven't seen any other notebooks with 13.3" screen and standard 4:3 aspect ratio....

Demand for these screens are not high enough so I guess it would be more expensive to manufacture them.

The rep told me that Fujitsu felt the market wsa going away from 13.3 so he was surprised when I told him Asus just decided to go to 13.3.

exactly, and there was always the sony S series.
The thing is that with 13.3" WIDE, you can have have a perfectly sized keyboard in an ultra portable package, that weighs around 4lb. Not that the standard sized 13.3" that Fujitsu are making don't have a decent keyboard but wide form factor will be a bit more relaxed.

Ah well, let's hope the S7000 can fill the gap. Especially that its screen was never on par with other Fujitsu's!

This really saddens me. The 13.3" form factor was so ideal for me. I always felt smaller screens were too small, and larger ones were too big for a buisness class portable. The S6000 series was as close to my ideal portable as I could get!

What am I going to do??????

I guess when I decide to upgrade, I may just have to get someone from Taiwan to help.

I think the bigger issue is widescreen not 14" or 13". Fujitsu is lagging the market on widescreen.

If Fujitsu wants to phase out 6xxx series fine for me if the replacement is 14" - but it needs to be widscreen - and it still needs to be at that 4lbs or under mark.

So they have some work to do. I would like to upgrade my S6231 but I am waiting for Fujitsu to make a widescreen of comparable size. If i dont see one by end of this year, I will be off to buy one from another company.
