Hi!
I'm having problems with gradient banding on my laptop lcd screen. I have a Fujitsu-Siemens PA1510.
When I intially install windows and the video drivers, the gradients look fine (not perfect though) but somewhere along the way as I install stuff I get pretty severe gradient banding. It looks awful.
Does anyone have a clue what might cause this?
Edit: Should I maybe post this at some general forum rather than the Fujitsu forum?

Is the resolution on the notebook correct. LCD displays only work on a specific resolution. Otherwise, the image appears fuzzy and unclear. I think the resolution for your particular notebook is 1280 x 800.

Thanks for you reply.
It's not fuzzy or anything, it's crystal clear. It's just the gradients that are bad. -
Sorry, but what exactly do you mean by "Gradients". Can you explain it a little more precisely
?

Of course
Im talking about color gradients...you know, color changing from white to black etc. -
Ah, right colour banding. That is sometimes also caused by the resolution being set incorrectly. Also, under Display Properties, set the "Colour Quality" to 32-bit, if it isn't already. To do this, right click on the desktop, and select "Properties". Then select the "Settings" tab, and under "Colour Quality" slect 32-bit.
The problem could also be the wallpaper you are using, as some will colour band more than others. Try a simple one, with a much smaller colour gradient, and see if that makes any difference. If not, then there may be something wrong with the LCD display itself. I hope this helps. -
Thanks, but my settings are at 32-bit and this banding occurs everywhere and like I said, initially it looks fine but after installing something it seems to go wrong.
I would image it could have something to do with the graphics drivers...but I've tried all kinds of graphic settings and fujitsu hasnt provided any newer drivers on their site than the ones I have. -
If that is the case, then I would consider giving Fujitsu Siemens a telephone call, and seeing what they say about it. They may be able to take the notebook in and repair/replace the screen or what ever is causing the problem. I'm sorry I couln't help you with the issue.

Ok, but I fear sending off stuff to large companies...itll probably take a half year before I get it back
But I guess I could call them at least.
Thanks for trying to help! I really appreciate it! -
I had a same problem, it's a ATi's way to expand battery life, I suppose (probably, the ATi x1100 core have less power needings when it's run 16bit palette), look at my post AMILO Pa 1510 problems misc http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=100776

Hey, did U fix it?!?

try uninstalling graphic card drivers use drive cleaner remove what left behind. then go to device manager locate display adapter it should display your graphic card details. right click and choose update driver whatever options windows choose no and choose "let me choose driver" windows will update the driver now insert your drivers disc, choose express installation this should find that your graphics card drivers are missing, now click install.
