I have a Fujitsu A6030 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32-bit and two (2) 1GB memory modules installed. I bought two new Patriot 2GB modules and replaced the memory. The BIOS memory test passed but the laptop freezes up as soon as it tries to boot the OS.

I put the original memory back in and it boots just fine.

Swaped out just one of the original 1GB modules for a new 2GB module and same problem, BIOS POSTs OK, but then Vista never boots/screen goes dark.

I know the 32-bit OS won't recognize all 4GB, but it should'nt boot it? I got 4GB because I plan to upgrade to win7-64.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

i got the same problem... return the chips back to the seller and ask for a replacement ... the chips are probably the wrong kind... you have to specify the speed of the chip and everything... im not sure how to do that. i just went on ebay and looked for fujitsu a6020 memory chips. when i swapped it in - the screen locked up on me! but when i put the original chips back in it is okay... then i just swapped one of the new one in and it worked okay... but then i tried the other one and it turned out that the one of the two they sent me was defective! so i just kept the good 2gb and returned it for a replacement... although the chips were not the type that i expected... it worked... so now i got 2 of the 2gb working... it just is the faster 1033 module instead of the 667... not sure exactly anymore since it has been a while... anyways - try www.crucial.com they have a diagnostic tool that should be able to give you the exact type you need... good luck... sorry i could be that much more help... not an expert... just ran into the same problem you have most likely it seems ... happy new years and hope it works for you

Thanks. patriot site claims these are the correct modules for the A6030.

Even if it's 32 bit, your computer should still boot; like you said, it just won't recognize the full 4 GB. It's definitely the new RAM sticks; I would either contact Patriot, or find the manufacturer/model of the 1GB sticks you currently have and buy the 2GB version.

My Fujitsu was extremely picky about the memory it accepted. I bought a decent brand of 1gb stick for my Fujitsu but it just didnt work. Worked fine when I added the exact same type of Crucial ram however. Check the Fujitsu website and check for the accepted brands of ram and use only those.

maybe just a bad ram. make sure same speed. check what is the max memory per slot (should accept 2gb ea). I install all kind of rams into all fujitsu computers. never had any problem unless its a bad ram.

Put the old ones in... do a BIOS update... try the new ones again.
